More impressions from the Wat Pho in Bangkok, Thailand

Hello Steemians,

Today I will show interior images of the Buddhist temple complex Wat Pho in Bangkok, Thailand. It is regarded one of the nation's most important temples.

The most sacred building of the complex is the Phra Ubosot, where Buddhist rituals are performed. Inside the Ubosot is a gold and crystal three-tiered pedestal, topped with a gilded Buddha, made of a gold-copper alloy. Over the statue is a nine-tiered umbrella representing the authority of Thailand (1).

The main attraction of the complex for visitors though must be the statue of the reclining Buddha in another building of the complex, the Phra Vihara. The statue represents the entry of Buddha into Nirvana, the end of all reincarnations. The figure is 15 meters high and 46 meters long, and it is one of the largest Buddha statues in Thailand. It has a brick core, which was subsequently covered with plaster, and finally gilded.

The soles of the feet of the Buddha are 3 meters high and 4.5 meters long, and inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Each sole is divided into 108 panels, displaying the various symbols by which Buddha can be identified, such as flowers, dancers, white elephants, tigers, etc. At the center of each sole is a circle, representing a chakra (energy point).

On the walls and columns surrounding the statue are beautiful, colorful murals.

And that's the end of today's post, and my last one about the temple Wat Pho.

I hope you liked it, and that you will follow me to the next one, when we'll visit another interesting temple, the Wat Traimit. Have a good day, and we'll speak again soon!
