Underwater River: Cenote Angelita

in travel •  7 years ago

Cenote Angelita is an advanced scuba diving cenote (water-filled cave) that has contains a hidden underwater river!

This unique formation can be found in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and should motivate anyone who is interested in obtaining a scuba certification.

A pit is formed when the limestone bedrock collapses and sinks. It is then filled with a fresh groundwater and saltwater. When organic matter falls into the limestone reservoir and then decomposes, it creates halocline (a thin cloud of hydrogen sulphide) that causes freshwater and saltwater to seperate.

I was born in Mexico and I have had the pleasure to swim in several cenotes.

This time last year I had the pleasure to swim in the Cenote Ik Kil, in Chichen Itza in Mexico's Yucatan. A cenote swim is a wonderful natural experience, and Cenote Angelita looks absolutely amazing.

Nice post, thank you for sharing.

Thank you, I am glad you liked it. That is amazing you have had this kind of scuba experience, it really looks awesome!
