Sunday Walk #2 - Looking for springtime signs @Belver [Portugal]

in travel •  8 years ago  (edited)

Hello fellow steemians!

Another Sunday walk?! may you ask...

Oh yes! I went on a small weekend trip, and once again I didn't prepare my usual Sunday Cook (another week of unprepared meals, what a mess!!).

I don't mind because it was worth it!!

I had an amazing weekend visiting some beautiful places right here in Portugal.

This Sunday I went to Belver

Do you know those places taken from children's book fantasies? Belver could be one of those places!!

Belver, name given to the castle and then extended to the village, is the only municipality in Alentejo that extend above the Tagus river, in a transitory position between the south and central Portugal.

Visiting the castle was in my plans (wich I did), but not my main purpose!

First I went to a walk close to the river!!

We parked in Alamal river beach and start walking. There's a nice walkway built close to the water and the vegetation is the "UAU" factor!!

"UAU" because it's mainly native, and I really appreciate and valorize that!

I also saw some invasive species there...but I'm not sharing it today.

Native vegetation

When I don't know the exact species, I'll just indicate only it's genus.

  • Ranunculus sp.

  • Rhamnus alaternus

  • Ruscus aculeatus

  • Phillyrea angustifolia

  • Viburnum tinus

  • Alnus glutinosa

  • Salix atrocinerea

  • Crataegus monogyna

...and so on! I could keep posting plant photos, but guess I already have showed a lot of springtime signs so far!

After the walk, batteries needed to be charged

We went to the snack-bar/restaurant and ordered this amazing appetizer ("Pica-pau") served with regional bread and beer!

It's fried pork with garlic, salt, maybe white wine and bay leaf served with pickles.

To the castle we went!

and this was the view!

The legend says that a beautiful princess looking from the main tower's window and discovering the panorama exclaimed: "QUE BELO VER!" (what a beautiful sight).

Hope you enjoyed this trip and can join in future ones!!

I'm still preparing my next post...

Field trip to Lousã Mountains [Portugal] - Part 3 - Acacia dealbata, a Sisyphus problem?

Stay tuned!!

@liliana.duarte thank you for taking us there!
This was featured in a Travel tv program here!
The view! It's priceless!
Can you swim there in summer?

I would advise against swimming there.
The river is beautiful but the water quality analysis is not pretty.
Fresh news from today morning: Too many heavy metals in the Belver dam.
Rent a boat! :)

Damn to dam's and it's poor water quality!! Anyway, I'll check it on summertime, I still believe I can take a nice bath there!

Ok. I'll be in the yacht :)

I also saw this place in a tv news program! It was my first time there, I don´t know if we can swim there, but I guess it's possible! I'll need to check it :) The trail was enormous and I only walked a part...another reason to return! ;)

Cool castle selfie! Your Belver pic has inspired a child story/fable in me for my next vid. Obrigado @liliana.duarte!

De nada @mindhunter! :)

Btw, it's not a selfie, it's a regular photo, the type of photo we have to ask someone to take it! Ahahah ;)

Understood! ... I just thought you had very long arms ... as well as long legs! Ha ha! ;)

I don't have long arms or legs, I'm a regular portuguese woman! It's so strange to have regular photos these days, hum?!

I love regular photos. Later I'm going to post my photos from St Tropez from last year. The very classy @mindhunter :)

Thank you for sharing the place :) @liliana.duarte

You're welcome!! I like to share the good things of life ;)

Nice walk. I like the small beach and all the surroundings.

Me too. Guess we must return on summer to test the beach ;)

Wow! Nice pictures.

Thanks!! :)

I must say Lily this is the best post I've seen you do. The quality is reflected in its dollar value in up-votes :) Resteemed!

Thanks!! The place helped a lot!! :)

I can feel it all through the post. The colour in the pics, the location and the words - it all comes together and sings quality - hence it wins my daily Resteem ;) ... and I see a LOT of posts daily!!

Ok then, I'll accept the merit ;)

2 Portuguese speakers have won my RS of the day 2 days in a row! - a Brazilian dude won it yesterday @manandezo :)

You know, Portuguese speakers rules!! ;) Ahah...
Though we write in English...;)

All Portuguese express well emotionally, so I think that is why. Can a 3rd Portuguese win my daily RS today?? ;)
