Fellow Steemians!
This week we are back to pick up exactly where we left off last time. After our unforgettable road trip through the Peloponnese, we decided to continue our adventures by embarking on a new journey.
Island hopping through the Aegean
We visited the island of Chios for a week and did not get enough of it! With a lot of history to share and being the only place in the world to produce the unique plant resin of ‘mastic’, Chios is a perfect holiday destination for a better taste of the Greek culture. Stitch has origins from this beautiful island and we make sure to go there every year and enjoy peaceful and relaxing moments at Emporios, one of the islands small paradise-like harbours.
(boat riding along the coast of Chios)
We did a lot of activities, like walking around the historic village of Anavatos for a lovely sunset opportunity, which is strategically located in the mountains so it could not be seen by the Ottoman army!
...We will reveal the rest in our next post…
Our next stop was Ikaria, where we had arranged to meet some local friends. We rented an apartment for 4 nights, and had two cars to drive around the island (which was absolutely necessary!). It is hard to say what we liked the most about it; the golden beaches, the delicious food, the warm people, the natural beauty…
(Nas - one of Ikarias famous beaches)
Our experience of Ikaria was something incomparable to the rest of the Greek islands, as it is one of the few that maintain the originality and authenticity of the Greek culture. With people there outliving on average any other population globally, there is evidently a lot of magic in the Ikarian atmosphere that only the people who have been there can understand.
Finally, we decided to take the two-hour boat to Samos where we spent 3 nights before ending our Island hopping series. We decided to do what we love the most, camp on the beach and come closer to nature.
(One of Samos' hidden spots!)
Lilo’s grandmother was also born and raised in Kalovasi, one of Samos’s traditional villages where we made sure to visit for its delicious, organic, food-serving taverns.
Nice photography thanks for sharing with us.
