"Oh you should have got an e-mail"
Our adventure started early, or late depending on your point of view. Ain't that always the case? This time it was the minor inconvenience of having our flight out delayed by four hours because of a yellow weather warning covering the entire country.
"So here's vouchers for £7.00 each, redeemable for refreshments anywhere airside."
I realised that I've never actually experienced a delayed flight before. I'm not the super frequent flier, I don't know what the average is for a man of my age and social class, does anyone? But I don't feel like I'm a rare flier either. Nonetheless, I think I've been pretty lucky over the years.
I'm also trying (aren't we all?) to fly less often even though it's ridiculously cheap to me, it really is ridiculously expensive for the whole world. Ironically, most Icelanders seemed to attribute their recent tourist boom to the time when a volcano went off and pretty much all traffic in Europe was grounded for a few days.
Anyway, LEON got my £7.00 (and a little bit more, I think) and EAT got nearly as much in cash for coffee to bide the time. "You're OK" said Mrs Davis, "you quite like just sitting here and staring into space".
Eventually of course we boarded. and I could let my friend, who was picking us up at the other end, know that we would be there before midnight. Heathrow Terminal 2 receded behind us and we soared into the late afternoon sky towards the rain-clouds in a north-westerly direction and our next set of thrills.
I've spent far too much time in airports as I used to travel a bit for work. Some are really boring and I don't like shopping much anyway. What sort of weather was it? Yellow snow?
