Crystal Clear Waters & Stunning Skies in Son Bou, Menorca ⛅

Hey guys, taking a little break from the #veganuarycontest posts today to bring you on a brief jaunt to the Balearic Islands!

During the summer I visited Son Bou, a small resort town on the south coast of Menorca.

This part of the island is well known for its long sandy beaches, and crystal clear waters.

It is also home to diverse birdlife who have made their home within the Prat de Son Bou nature reserve, the second most-important wetland on Menorca, containing rich biodiversity. It is located behind the beach and features dunes and marshes.

Son Bou is very much a leisure resort, there are not many cultural activities to do. However, near to the biggest hotel, Sol Milanos Pinguinos, are the ruins of The Roman Basilica which are located to the east of the main beach at Son Bou.

Basilicas are a variety of Roman building built between 300 and 400 AD. Religious buildings such as these were used for public gatherings, much like a public hall as well as religious ceremonies like baptisms.

Nearby to the Basilica is a mountainous, green area where you can go and climb and explore.

There are small doors to dwellings inside the rockface which are really interesting to discover and must be home to nearby farmers who tend the local goats. 🐐🐐

So cute!

During a walk around this area, I saw some of the most intricate and stunning cloud formations I have ever seen- just beautiful!

This resort is very much a haven for those wanting to relax by the pool and go to the beach, as such there aren't many places of interest to visit and the town is very much populated by tourists- you will hear more English spoken than Spanish!

The restaurants in the area do serve some traditional Spanish cuisine, but the very much cater for an English clientele, so not a place to look for an 'authentic' experience.

It was also quite limited in options for vegetarians, I did find that my meals consisted of mainly chips and salad!

It is however a place of much natural beauty, my walks along the coastline made for many a photo opportunity, the water crystal clear and the sands fine and golden.

There are picturesque trails along the coast that lead you through farmland and fauna to the next beach town.

The water in Son Bou is the warmest I have ever experienced! It was like wading into the most beautiful ocean bathtub ever!

I really enjoyed my time in Son Bou, although quite commercial and touristy in the town, the beaches were stunning and I had a wonderfully relaxing few days of swimming, reading, walking and self reflection.
