Where do Filipinos get the name PHILIPPINES?
Let me start by giving you a little introduction about my country.
The Philippines was named in honor of King Philip II of Spain. Spanish explorer Ruy López de Villalobos, during his expedition in 1542, named the islands of Leyte and Samar Felipinas after the then-Prince of Asturias. Since then the official name of the Philippines was change so many times in the course of its history. And after some time eventually the name Philippines becomes the common name of the country and since the end of the World War II the official name of our country is the Republic of the Philippines.
Philippines is a sovereign island country in Southeast Asia situated in the western Pacific Ocean. It consists of more than 7,000 islands that are categorized broadly under three main geographical divisions:
Luzon
Visayas,
and Mindanao
The Philippines is bounded by the South China Sea on the west, the Philippine Sea on the east and the Celebes Sea on the southwest, our country shares maritime borders with Taiwan to the north, Vietnam to the west, Palau to the east and Malaysia and Indonesia to the south. Manila is the capital city of the Philippines. Some of the other big cities of the Philippines includes Cebu City in the Visayas region, and Davao City in Mindanao, the home of the new President of the Philippines.
So much with those history let us continue now to the striking places of our country which I am very proud to introduce to you, whether you are locals who haven’t been yet to these magnificent places or foreigners who had a plan to visit us in the future.
