Rarotonga is a volcanic island in the South Pacific. It is the most populous island in the country, and home to the Nations capital, Avarua. The island is surrounded by a lagoon, which extends out to colourful coral reefs, and features four coral islets just off of shore. Swimming, snorkeling, and boating are all popular activities to do here, particularly in the south of the island, where the lagoon is at its widest.

Inland, eroded volcanic peaks are surrounded by lush jungle. The highest of these peaks is Te Manga, which rises 652m above sea level. The island also features a conservation area, which aims to protect native birds and plants.
