Well, hello again...
It's been... a couple weeks... Sorry about that. It took more than a moment to settle in, get to know my housemates, start up with my job and all that boring stuff.
It was a whirlwind of a first few days... We arrived into a house full of people having drinks for Sunday Funday, after a few continuous days of partying. Unsure of whom our room mates are, and what the hell was going on, we moved our stuff in between the randoms milling about, having bevvies and laughing about last nights misadventures...
Obviously, we precariously tossed out stuff into our tiny room, all decked out with a squeaky useless bunk bed and ancient set of drawers, and cracked ourselves some cold ones...
Sunday Funday is a notorious night for locals here on the mountain, with a couple of bars in the village doing cheap doubles and featuring bass filled tunes. Cheap drinks + increased altitude makes for a rather drunk time. We stumbled up the snow covered foot path to the village to dance the night away... aka until 1am when the bars shut. Then slide down the very same path back to our humble abode for more beers, meaningful heart to heart conversations, and all that jazz...
From there we had a couple days to sort ourselves before starting off our jobs at one of the restaurants/lounges on hill. We went about burning down the bunk bed... just kidding. We took it down in an orderly but spiteful manner, even though it spewed a questionable orange liquid all over the floor, and shoved it into the depths of storage, never to be seen again. We organized our plethora of items as best we could in our tiny room, then set about cleaning our borderline sess pool of a house... Okay it wasn't that bad, but you can imagine the state of it with 8 people living there full time plus an unnamed amount of vagrants passing through for drinks and chats and blah blah blah...
So we moved in, got our ski pass, figured out who we actually shared our living space with, bonded with the locals over frothies, all with a day to spare before opening day. Alas, the weather had been very warm with little snow... We also had to work opening day. With the day before actually raining we did not have high hopes, but said we would catch first chair weather permitting...
It did not permit. Waking up at 8 am to pouring rain, we decided to catch a few more winks before our first shifts. Work was uneventful. The mountain is fairly dead until mid December anyways, so we are able to ease ourselves into the craziness of ski season.
We went out for a few runs before our shifts the next day, as the conditions were marginally better. It was icey but at least not melty and rainy. Then we both got inevitably sick, as when we arrived on the mountain, 5 out of 8 room mates were very sick, and we live in ridiculously close quarters.
Despite our sore throats and runny noses, we forced ourselves out for first chair when the Black Forest lift opened during the next few days. It was well worth it, with fresh lines to be had for all, over and over again. We floated to our hearts content... or at least until our shifts started that afternoon.
This being my second season on the mountain, I am all to aware at how sickness rips through the mountain residents constantly. It is the worst, and you have to be constantly disinfecting, taking tinctures and vitamins, and downing bottles of cough syrup to keep up. It is ultimately my least favorite part of mountain life, but I guess that is what you get for walking out your door and riding down to the ski lift whenever you fancy. The germs, and I suppose, the cramped living quarters. But the latter has its cute quirks, like "orphan" Xmas and family dinners.
So even though I was sick, I was convinced to go out for a Gender Bender themed party the following Friday. Like I could turned down a themed costume party. The next day I truly woke up sounding like a hearty male, and vowed not to go out until I was better... oops was convinced yet again to head out for Sunday Funday, which ended up not being worth while, and I ended up spending my day off without a voice and dying in bed. I spend the next couple days being called off work because the village was a ghost town, and nursing my voice back to health with disgusting apple cider vinegar drinks and binge watching Anime...
That basically brings us to the present time. Picture me, still in my work attire and messily eating wings whilst daintily typing this post on my laptop, simultaneously watching YouTube on my phone...
Thanks for reading, I hope to be more present on here during the week to inform you of my exploits or past adventures...
Here are some pretty mountain shots for your eyeballs to enjoy.
