Tracy Arm is a fjord in Alaska close Juneau.It is named after the Secretary of the Navy Benjamin Franklin Tracy.It is situated around 45 miles (72 km) south of Juneau and 70 miles (110 km) north of Petersburg, Alaska,off of Holkham Bay and nearby Stephens Passage inside the Tongass National Forest. Tracy Arm is the core of the Tracy Arm-Fords Terror Wilderness,designated by the United States Congress in 1980.
Tracy Arm-Fords Terror Wilderness contains 653,179 sections of land (2,643.32 km2) and comprises of two profound and thin fjords:Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm. The two fjords are more than 30 miles (48 km) long and one-fifth of their zone is canvassed in ice.During the summer,the fjords have significant coasting ice extending from hand-sized to pieces as expansive as a three-story building.During the latest glaciated period,both fjords were loaded with dynamic ice sheets.
