Everyone with a little honesty in them will admit that Sihanoukville - Cambodia’s biggest beach resort town is a shithole. Shithanoukville in short.
The beaches are dirty. The sea is muddy. And the place is filled with hordes of Chinese for whom every second hotel built a casino, Russians, cheap Charlies otherwise known as backpackers and low level expats. While Thailand’s Pattaya have a lot of the latests mentioned, Sihanoukville takes those who are not welcome in Pattaya anymore. You’ve got a picture...
Is there anything good here? Well, it’s still a seaside town, which gives it some points. It’s also a port to get to nearby islands. It also has some nice hotels.
On my last inspection trip I stayed in Amareina Resort, Sokha Beach Resort and Tamu Hotel where I took photos for this post. While in Cambodia do yourself a favor, skip Sihanoukville and jump right to the nearby islands.
