Travel #1 : Kyoto Trip Kawai & Shimogamo Shrine 京都の下鴨・河合神社 Travel Journal

There are many Shrines​ in Japan. ⛩ According to the research​, the number of Shrine​ is more than the ​convenience store. Wow! I've never known​ it.On this post, I will show you about Kyoto trip with my younger sister.

日本には神社がたくさんありますが、なんとその数はコンビニより多いのだそうです。知らなかった！今回の記事では、私と妹の京都旅行についてご紹介します。

Last autumn, me and my sister went to Kyoto. And we enjoyed sightseeing and foods :) On the first day of Kyoto trip, we visited Shimogamo & Kawai Shrine where very popular among woman.

去年の秋、妹と京都へ行き、ご飯や観光など楽しんできました。旅の初日は、女性に大人気の下鴨＆河合神社を訪れました。

Shimogamo and Kawai Shrine are located closely and you just walk 10minutes to move. So I highly recommend visiting​ both if you go to North area of Kyoto. Also Tadasu no Mori is a very peaceful forest area where good for rambling.

下鴨神社と河合神社はとても近いところにあり、歩いて10分くらいで移動できるので、もし京都の北エリアを旅行するなら、ぜひ両方とも訪れてみてほしいです。2つの神社をつなぐ糺ノ森はとてもピースフルな空気に満ちていて、ぶらぶら歩くだけでもなんだかハッピーな気分になれますよ。

河合神社 Kawai Shrine

Kawai Shrine’s Ema is so unique​. (What is Ema?) It called Kagami-ema, and ladies can make a wish to be beautiful.
河合神社の絵馬はとってもユニーク。「鏡絵馬」と呼ばれていて、美人祈願ができるんです。

願掛け方法も面白くて、自分の願い事を書いたら、その裏の絵馬の顔にメイクをして奉納するようになっているんです。神社の敷地内には色鉛筆が置いてあるのでそれを使っても良いのですが、自分のメイク道具で絵馬にお化粧する方が人気です。私もみんなに習ってやってみました♡

How to make a wish - Kagami ema　鏡絵馬

1, Make up Ema's face as you want
2, You can use color pencils in Shrine, but also your cosmetic items are great. (Lip stick, eyeliner…)
3, When makeup is finished, turn over ema and write your wish and your name.
4, Place your ema in this area↓

Can you find Anime face Kagami ema ? It is so fun to see everyone’s creative works.
アニメっぽいお化粧をした絵馬もありました。みんなの作品？を見るのはとても楽しい…。

I recommend you to drink sweet Karin (Chinese​ quince) water there. It is made by Karin grown in Shimogamo shrine garden.
敷地内で販売されている甘い花梨水もおすすめです。下鴨神社のお庭で採れた花梨を使っているそうです。

下鴨神社 Shimogamo Shrine

Shimogamo Shrine is larger than Kawai Shrine. Can you see girls sitting near a ​tiny river in this photo?
They are checking their fortune slip (Omikuji). There are many types​​e of Omikuji in Shimogamo Shrine and one of them is Water Omikuji.

下鴨神社は河合神社より大きくて、作りもやや荘厳な感じです。こちらの写真の中央の小さな川のそばにいる女性たちが何をしているかわかりますか？彼女たちは、水に浸すとお告げがわかる「水みくじ」をしているんです！

It is so fun to see the combination of ancient architecture (Shrine) with Modern products (Water Omikuji, Make up ema…)

絵馬にメイクして、水みくじをして、女子たちがインスタに載せる…。
現代的な感覚を上手に取り入れている歴史的なスポットって感心しちゃいます！
