A Trip to Flamingo Spa in Vantaa

My wife had bought tickets to the spa at a steep discount a few months ago and as we had the time to do it on our holiday we decided to use the tickets today. The spa is in part of the large shopping center and hotel complex Jumbo a five minutes from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport. The spa had a side for familes and another for adults. We stayed on the family side. It was a bit small but adequate. It was nice to get to a sauna for a change. We do have a sauna at home, too, but it is used as storage.

We had lunch at a trattoria, I think it was Spaghetteria, in the shopping centre. We wanted to get something quickly and not have to pay too much. We couldn't help but notice the operation had clearing and wiping the tables clean as a bottleneck. There was only one person doing that in the whole restaurant and she seemed to be in no hurry at all. She did not even use a tray or any kind to pick up the dirty dishes. The food was good and the service was otherwise ok. The shopping centre was packed with people doing post-Christmas discount shopping, including a lot of Russian tourists having arrived just for that purpose. I think that restaurant could've increased its turnover considerably by making sure there are enough free tables wiped clean and without dirty dishes on them available.

Next, we proceeded to the spa. It is part of the furthest building in the above picture, the tallest part of which you can see.

After we were finished with the spa, we went for late dinner/supper. Swimming makes one hungry. We ended up in Ristorante Il Siciliano in the same building and ordered what you see below. According to TripAdvisor, people have had mixed experiences with this restaurant. We had no bad luck.

That's our daughter's plate from the kid's menu. It was surprisingly large.

My wife had a calzone with fresh mushroom, ham, mozzarella, pesto, and cheese. She didn't complain about it or praise it so I think it must have been ok.
