Weekend fishing trip

Went on a camping and fishing trip into the Uinta mountain range in Utah, located approximately 45 minutes east of Salt Lake City. (interesting fact about the Uintas is that they run east west instead of north south; very few ranges do this in the North American continent.) We camped near an area called the Mirror Lake Highway. Its such a beautiful area, its worth the drive just for the scenery. DSC00023.JPG

I've fished this area for several years, catching a range of fish from brook trout to arctic grayling. Graylings are my favorite fish to have ever caught. They aren't very big, but they really are beautiful. I've actually only ever caught one, and unfortunately don't have photos to back it up. One of these days its off to Alaska to catch decent sized ones. In this area they may get up to a pound if you're lucky. I caught maybe a half pounder. Anyways, I digress.

The mountain is beautiful, covered in forest, and full of wildlife. Heres a not so friendly moose we encountered while out fly fishing .

I was with my nephew as we fished down the upper Provo River, catching several very small brook trout. It was a great trip, with some truly amazing beauty.

(this was his first attempt at fly fishing, so he wasn't quite sure what he thought of it)

Overall, I would say the Uintas are one of my favorite places. Ive travelled a bit, seen some amazing things, but am always happy to be able to get out into these mountains. They truly are amazing.
