Hello everyone,

This is a great moment in my life and I live for it with great privilege no doubt. It is good to visit some tourist attraction which will give you more in sight, more knowledge, more information, more wisdom on that particular interest of yours, be it a town, a tourist spots or attraction ,zoo, palace, art and craft, statute and many other thing you can think of. This is applicable to me @matthewthonyit as a person, I am a farmer for very long time, also a tourist. I travel not always but once in a while. So my first tour was to Ondo state, Nigeria. I found many new site, new places, just like the big Ile Oluji Cocoa making industry, the new ondo gate, and a very big Pet store also in Ondo state.

WHERE DID I VISIT?
  • For today, which is the second day of my tour, I visited ile-ife. Osun state. Nigeria where I saw many ancient statue although it has been modernized by the government or the Oba on the throne. Oba Ogunwusi Ojaja, the Ooni of ife.
  • I saw the Moremi statue, where I saw many young ladies in white garment making a dancing moment in the Moremi big compound.
  • I was also opportuned to visited the Ooni Palace.
  • Also the Opa Oranmiyan's statue along Ondo road, ile -ife. Osun state. Nigeria.
WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE OPA ORANMIYAN'S STAFF.
  • Oranmiyan Staff (Opa Oranmiyan as populaly called . The Oranmiyan staff is a historic object which represents Oranmiyan as shown below, the third Ooni of Ife, who was the youngest son of Oduduwa, the father of the Yoruba people. Oranmiyan was a powerful warrior credited with founding the Oyo and Benin Empires.( historical). The 5.27 metre-high Oranmiyan staff made of granite with iron studs is in a grove he was buried in,seen in the image below located within the Mopa area of Arubidi in Ile-Ife. Whenever a new Ooni (king) comes into power, he receives his staff of office from the grove.(till date)
Few Interesting Things You Never Knew About The Mysterious Opa Oranmiyan (Oranmiyan’s Staff) In Ile Ife Where Human Beings Are Believed To Have Originated(Historical believe)
  • The Number one goes does. The Opa Oranmiyan (Staff of Oranmiyan) as it is normally called, is a slim carved granite column that is almost six metres tall. (Physically). So that makes it quite tall in comparison with the average human height. You can't in anyway compare at all. This particular Opa Oranmiyan staff standing stone work has its body ornamented with 123 nails (iron pegs) that are arranged in the shape of an elongated trident leading one to question such a symbolic representation with Neptune the god of the seas whose symbol is a trident. Till date, No one is been responsible for the arrangements and really knows how the nails were driven into it and on the same side with the nails are some faded carvings and inscriptions.
  • IT HAS ITS OWN SHRINE SEPARATELY : The Opa Oranmiyan is located inside the Oranmiyan Shrine in Moopa in the Aribidi end of the Ile Ife city, also along the Ondo road,ile-ife. It is one of the major tourist sites and monuments in Ile Ife with the others being the Lafogido Grove, Olokun Grove, Olu Orogbo, Ooni Ilare, but I was not opportuned to visit this other places mention.

* WHY IS IT CALLED A STAFF?

  • Here is a little bit story. For the sake of tradition, Oranmiyan was a giant warrior son of Oduduwa (some others say or believe Ogun) and he was the first powerful King (Alaafin) of Oyo, so to say. The warrior Oranmiyan had left Ile Ife and marched south ,I guess you following me, conquering everything on his path but he had promised the people of Ile Ife that if they ever needed him, he would return from his march of conquests. He said if Ife was threatened, all the people had to do was to congregate and scream his name.(The powerful man in charge), So when the hour of need arrived, fighting war emerged , the people of Ife did what he had told them and Oranmiyan came storming towards Ife, destroying everything on his way. When he arrived Ife to rescue his people, he unleashed so much power that one of the warriors he killed was his friend(Too bad) warrior spirit in action.

Here are some pictures proof. Stay tune.

MOREMI AJASORO.

Moremi Ajasoro, Princess of the Yoruba, was a figure of high significance in the history of the Yoruba peoples of West Africa. She was a member-by-marriage of the royal family of Emperor Oduduwa, the tribe's fabled founding father by history.
Also little about Moremi : The Oloori Moremi lived in the 12th century, hailed from Offa, originally ,and was married to the then king of Ile Ife, a kingdom that is said to have been at war with an adjoining tribe who were known to them as the Forest people (Ìgbò in the Yoruba language, though the said tribe is believed by scholars to have had no relation to the contemporary Ìgbòs of modern Nigeria)These are some common belief.

Here are some pictures I took while in the Moremi Ajasoro big Statue . Enjoy the view.
