The dramatic shores of the west coast

Welcome to New Zealand! I myself am from the North Island (Taranaki Area) but now live in Christchurch and have done since the earthquakes. I think you have come to town during what seams to be our annual storm right after Christmas. Wait half a month and Christchurch will start going into a no rain no cloud in sight dry period. If you get a chance make sure you head down to Milford sounds. I did a blog a long time ago of our travel there but here is 2 photos that stood out:

The weather changes rapidly here due to the contour of the skinny islands. Have Fun in NZ and let me know if you need any suggestions!

Those photos are terrific. I'm not in New Zealand now, I'm back in South Africa. We enjoyed our trip to New Zealand so much, that I'm just writing about our trip there. If you have been following my series on our trip, you will have seen we were in the Taranaki area. I still have to write about our visit to the Milford sounds.
You are lucky to live in New Zealand and experience it's dramatic beauty.

I only just came across your series but I went through and I think I've now read them all. All of the places you have mentioned I have been there, done that type thing and it is interesting looking at it through a tourists eyes. I particularly liked your posts about Mt Taranaki, and Whangamomona. My sister works for the department of conservation (DOC) here protecting the Mt and she would love to hear how it had no rubbish! We all try to take care of our nature here as it is very precious to us. I am glad you enjoyed your trip!
