Visit to Waraira Repano National Park, Meet Venezuela

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello everyone dear Steemians

Hello friends of Steemit! Here again showing a little bit of my travels in my beautiful Venezuela, this time in English! I'm going to show you a very special place that has the City of Caracas (the capital of the country), I refer to the National Park El Ávila, called like that traditionally, and today it has a new name that I will show you later.

The greatest blessing that the city of Caracas has, without a doubt, is El Ávila National Park, which separates it from the sea to the north. It is a true vegetable lung, as well as an excellent place for relaxation and exercise. It also serves to guide anyone, always indicating where the north is.

El Ávila National Park, known to the original inhabitants of the Caracas Valley as Guaraira Repano, which means "Sierra Grande". Others claim that the correct word was Wariarepano, meaning "place of the tapirs", because of the large number of tapirs that inhabited the mountains. The first time that the name "Ávila" as such appears is in the year 1778 according to the Acts of the Caracas Chapter. Before that date, the mountain was known as the "Sierra del Norte ","la Montaña a la Mar ", or "El Otro Lado Del Cerro". The name Ávila is due to the Governor Geronimo de Ávila, who owned some orchards in the mountains at his feet by 1600. When he died in 1795, his children inherited their lands and everyone in Caracas already knew it as the Sierra de los Ávila or the Cerro de Ávila. Hence the true origin of the name of the hill. Gabriel de Ávila story, repeated over and over again by several historians, has no historical basis or evidence of any kind. It is also estimated that this name took on strength, since Caracas is located in a valley and this mountain is comparable to a wall, the name "Ávila" alludes to the Spanish city of Ávila.

On May 7, 2011, President Hugo Chávez issued Decree No. 7,388 published in the Official Gazette No. 39,419, establishing the change of name of El Ávila National Park to Waraira Repano National Park. The same decree establishes the maintenance of the area and regulations of the former El Ávila National Park.

It is located in the Coastal Chain within the Coastal Range, in the center-north of Venezuela. It extends from Caracas (Distrito Capital), and all the north of the state of Miranda and the south of the state of Vargas. In 1958 it was declared a national park, within which different activities can be carried out as it is one of the main attractions of the Venezuelan capital at heights ranging from 120 to 2765 meters above sea level, in the Pico Naiguatá.

The Avila can be seen from almost the entire city. It is because of her presence that Caracas has been called the "Sultana del Ávila". From below you can see its majestic green! And already above, the climate, the nature, the landscapes and the harmony invite you to spend hours enjoying the goodness of the place...
In El Ávila it is necessary to comply with the national park regulations: Do not drink alcoholic beverages or use loud sound equipment. Do not cut the flowers or disturb the animals.

There are many ways to get to Ávila, my favorite is to use the cable car system; the journey is short, safe, easy and economical, the wagons are comfortable and there are some private ones, where you pay a little more but enjoy the privacy of a car for you and your companions.

In addition, the National Park offers its visitors a variety of restaurants and inns that make the direct contact with nature pleasant.... being upstairs with ice rinks, viewpoints where you can enjoy the best views of Caracas.

Once I took a jeep to a small town called Galipan where you get beautiful crafts, fruits, flowers, restaurants, horseback riding and endless outdoor activities that will really renew your energy.

On this occasion I was able to share these pleasant moments with my friends @abiel and @rosam1

And if you want to exercise body and mind, with a lot of energy you can climb it in a climbing walk that for beginners like me can leave you with your tongue out, but it will be worth it once you have managed to climb at least to the first station.

Visiting the Avila will always be a different option and for all tastes, being in contact with nature will always nourish the soul...

I hope you enjoyed the trip as much as I did, see you soon...!

The air looks very fresh. It must be nice to have somewhere like that so close to the big city.

It's great, it's an escape from the madness of the city.

I agree with you , thank you for sharing the beauties of our country, fraternal greetings.

I'm sure this is a google translate issue but it did give me a giggle. It looked amazing and while it would be a great hike, the cable car does look fun. Thanks for sharing with us.
