As part of the Ágitagueda art festival in Portugal, every July- September hundreds of colorful umbrellas are hung in the streets of Águeda. This beautiful tradition is only 3 years old however it has earned itself world fame and has caused a major increase in local tourism.
Not only does Umbrella street in Portugal provide a vibrant splash of beautiful color to the otherwise plain looking street, it also provides some much needed shade from the heat.
As you walk through this beautiful area, you can enjoy and purchase handmade clay pottery, baskets and knitted crafts and also sample local wines and sparkling drinks of the Bairrada Style.
So next time you find yourself in Portugal, be sure to explore Umbrella Street for an experience like no other!
