This time there is no doubt that you can see the true shapes of the mountainous rocks of Meteora. The first thought that went through my mind was that I knew where the inspiration for Avatar might've come from.
But leaving the movie aside, reality certainly offers some breathtaking moments in places such as this one. The monastery is up on top of the rock and in this next photo you can see the lift. They've used it to carry everything up, even people, before the stairway was build on the other side of the rock. This was a safe haven for many years.
Reaching the top you get the change to stay in a courtyard which provides beautiful views of the whole valley, as well as the buildings of the monastic complex. The church stands tall, but humble, the small rocks creating the impression that this is part of the mountain, blending it all together.
The other buildings are, nonetheless, fascinating to look at, giving off a constant medieval feeling.
The next photograph is extremely romantic in concept, thanks to the cloudy weather and the incredible view of the whole area. It truly made me stop and just admire and enjoy how amazing nature combined with human ingenuity can be.
Finishing off the visit, I got to take another photo exactly from the place that safely protects the lift. Off in the distance, another monastery is waiting to be discovered, marveled at and then, left in peace on it's rocky bed. But that is a visit for another time.
Hope you've enjoyed this small journey. I completely recommend going to this place whenever you get the chance, even if it is just for one morning. It is this kind of place that has the power to change you and I've tried to share it with you as best as I could :)
Until next time, be safe and as always, have a great day, friends!
