My amazing 10 day trip to Hong Kong

in travel •  8 years ago  (edited)

I consider myself a well traveled person, who spent her time all over Europe and Middle East but never Asia. I decided to change that :) Hong Kong here I come!!!

                               Getting There

Me and my gf flew with Cathay Pacific. It was suggested that this is the best Asian airline that will take you straight to Hong Kong. From NYC it took us 16 hours. Great staff, amazing food, and unlimited champagne. We were in Hong Kong in no time ;)

After we landed and left the airport humidity hit us haha but that was expected. The landscape is beautiful, sky scrappers and hills surrounded by water, BEAUTIFUL

                             Where to Stay

We stayed at the Airbnb in the Central District of Hong Kong. That is the main island basically that has major hotels, Financial District , amazing restaurants and an Art District (Soho).

Our place was very spacious which is rare for Hong Kong because spaces are limited and real estate is very expensive. Each morning we've had coffee on our balcony and the view was amazing.

It was right on top of the hill, and next to the zoo. We could hear monkeys screaming each day but it wasn't bad. The only thing that was kind of complicated is going up and down the hill from our place to the shops and restaurants, each day we've done that multiple times, up and down that hill. The weather was very humid, it also rained on a lot of days so I didn't even bother getting my hair done because they would be super freezy lol
Locals there dress pretty conservatively, and usually wear flats.

I wore heels once, when we went out to Nobu, which is located on the other island Koowloon.

Regretted wearing them after we went out for drinks. Could barely walk because of the landscape lol
Nobu was amazing as always, great food with a great view but to be honest Nobu is Nobu, no matter where you go. So I would suggest that if you visit Hong Kong you should try something more special and unique :)

                             Things to Do

There are a lot of things to do in Hong Kong actually. Let's start with shopping because that's what we did haha
If you are looking for a world known designers with variety of things to choose from you can visit any major mall in the Central District. Majority of designers there are high end. So if you are looking for something more local and affordable you can go to the other island and check out their stuff.IMG_0486.JPG

It is definitely more modest looking and less clean but that's where normal population lives, who are not balling in Central District.
There are barely any tourists here but who cares, you can eat at local restaurants, shop for cool things like specialty teas and cosmetics, and finally after you're tired of walking all day you can get a foot massage :)))

I think one of my favorite restaurants in Hong Kong was Mott 32, located in Central District.

Amazing ambiance, great staff and yummy food. If you're in Hong Kong you have to try all kinds of dim sum.
Mott 32 has many different options starting from salmon and pork and ending with truffles and fois gras. mt_mob_head_menu3.jpg

Hong Kong has many great rooftops with most amazing views!
I would suggest that you check the O2 Lounge that is located on the other island, at Ritz Carlton hotel.

I think it's one of the tallest bars in the world. You actually have to take two elevators, and it's kind of scary :)
My gf actually didn't feel very well because she was scared of heights lol

If you want to do nightlife scene the best club in Hong Kong is Dragon-I

Hong Kong also has a lot of cool underground bars. I love the speakeasy scene but sometimes it can be a struggle to find.

Quinary is still one of the best bars that I've been to. They received an award on some of the best cocktails in the world.

This drink is a must try you guys, Earl Grey Martini with Caviar
I can still smell the tea elements of this drink. A MUST TRY!!!

Ok, so after you sobered up in the morning it's time to go and look at the beautiful scenery of Hong Kong, and the best place to do that is to check out Victoria's Peak...

In order to get there you would need to purchase ferry tickets in Central District and then take the ferry that will take you all the way up to the hill, to the tourist center where you can enjoy the marvelous view and take pictures :)

Hong Kong is pretty fast paced. Mixture of New York and Miami together. People are very nice, food is delicious , even if you want to buy groceries, it's always fresh. Subways are clean and very organized, so pretty easy to figure out where you going.

I will definitely come back to Hong Kong, as I can confidently say it's my of my favorite places now :)
