My Birthday Trip to Cancun Part 1

White sand beaches, crystal clear water, piña colada, fresh guacamole and never ending fun.. Welcome to Cancun :)
The place where countless students gather to lose themselves during spring break or a place where couples come to spend a romantic vacation. Mexico is the achievable paradise that anyone can enjoy.

This blog is about my birthday trip to Cancun, Mexico, where my best girlfriends and I spent five days. Four of those days we spent on the smaller island of Cancun called Isla Mujeres, which translates to the Island of Women...Cancun is a very touristy place, very reasonably priced. Most of it area is covered with All Inclusive resorts, which means you will have everything you want and need on the premises of your resort, unlimited food and drinks, resort entertainment etc, where you pay a fixed price for it.

However, we decided to do something less conventional, more risky so therefore, more fun :)

We found an amazing ocean view villa on Aibrbnb in Isla Mujeres, we also rented out a golf cart to drive around the island. That way we get to explore the REAL culture of the island, and go to cute authentic restaurants. Take one day at a time… Isla Mujeres is a very authentic place in my opinion. It was not my first time there and it won't be the last. Tourists and locals kind of minble together, and everyone knows each other. Most of the people drive mopeds there, sometimes you see tourists like us driving golf carts, you rarely see any cars aside from taxis. You can drive around the whole island in literally 20 min.

Half of us arrived from Los Angeles, and the other half came from New York, it’s approximately a 4-5 hour trip by plane, non stop. To get to our villa in Isla Mujeres, we had to take a transfer from Cancun Airport to the ferry. It’s a lovely 15 min boat ride to the island. When we got to Isla Mujeres port we took a cab to our villa, 5 min ride basically.
It was very hard to explain where it is located, none of us spoke Spanish really. For some reason AT&T internet service wasn’t being very helpful. Eventually we got there, such a beautiful place. We’ve had great rooftop overlooking the ocean.

Our cart car was delivered to our villa, it cost us only $40 for 24 hours, great deal for four of us. The airbnb were very helpful with providing all these services, we didn't have to worry about anything. The guy who delivered our cart knew another guy who could take us on a half day boat tour with snorkeling and exploring one tiny island where we could eat fresh fish for lunch tomorrow. So we decided to have a relaxing fun dinner because we had to wake up early to go snorkeling but obviously that ended up a total crazy night until 6am lol but later about that…

So we got into the cart, I was driving, our phones not working, we’ve had no idea where are we going we just followed the map picture and drove down asking locals if we are going the right way. The cart obviously wasn't going fast and the road had bumps every once in awhile for people to keep a low speed.
To be honest I was getting sick of driving I just wanted to relax and not think about where we are going but it is what it is. We stopped few times to ask the locals if we were headed the right way. As we passed cute little buildings that were all different bright colors I couldn't help but wonder that our world is full of different magical places, different people, it would be amazing to explore all of that, see all of that. See how other people live, how different their priorities from yours...

We finally found our restaurant called Mamasita, food was great, drinks were delicious. Before coming to Mexico we all decided that we should keep a low profile because we are four single females in Mexico without any resort protection just traveling on our own. Well after few drinks low profile deal was forgotten lol Our cart broke down and thank God I’ve saved the owner’s phone number. While we were waiting for him to deliver our new cart we decided to buy a bottle of Bacardi and drink while we wait. So our ride back home was fun

After we drove around the island couple of times listening to music we finally decided to get to our villa, no idea how we got back so quick. We had to ask few locals again on how to get to our address, thank God there were still people outside sitting on their front porch.

It was almost midnight, meaning by birthday was mere minutes away, so we got into our outdoor Jacuzzi and opened a bottle of Moët
3-2-1 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!!! :D I was so glad to share that exact moment with my best girl friends.
