A day trip to Krakow, Poland

I was visiting Warsaw, the capital of Poland, when my Polish friend recommended that I visit Krakow. Being one of the oldest cities in Poland, it's a good place to gain an insight into the traditional architecture and culture of Poland. I got a train from Warsaw Central Railway Station direct to Krakow on the PKP railway service line. The journey took less than 3 hours and cost approximately £40 return.

Arriving at the station, I found that the main town area was within walking distance so hailing a taxi or other form of transport was not necessary. In fact, walking is the best way to discover treasures off the beaten track :)

I arrived at the main square:

This square was destroyed by the German Army during the invasion of Poland in 1939. After World War II, the square was rebuilt using old pictures and where possible original bricks. Looking around, it felt like a pretty magnificent effort was made.
