Burano, Italy

Hey there Steemians! Since our trip to Burano was rained out yesterday, we thought what better way to finish off our Italy trip than making it there today!

A little history of Burano

Burano is a fishing village north of Venice, right next to the island of Torcello. The village is most known for its extremely colorful houses. Historically, the houses were painted these bright colors to identify where one families home ended and anothers began. Legend also says that the houses were painted bright colors so that the fishermen could see them in dense fog.

The village is so proud of their painted houses that each resident actually has to send a request to the government if they wish to paint their house. The government then replies with a list of colors that the specific lot is allowed to be painted!

The population on the island has slowly declined over time as people move to Venice for more opportunities, however, the residents that remain love the village and embrace its unique history. While we were here we saw many elderly women sweeping the stone walkways and small children playing in the grass squares.

Here's to hoping this town never disappears and future generations are able to enjoy this amazing and happy place!

It is truly interesting and colorful.

Oh my god, the colors. So incredible!

Just a completely different place from anywhere I have ever been before, it was so cool to walk around and see something different aroubd each corner.

Awesome photos! Love em :) What camera you use?

These were all actually taken on my Samsung Note 4!!! We also have a Nikon D3300, but I haven't had a chance to download those pictures yet.

Are you kidding me? What the? Can't be.... :D Really some great shots!

Yeah, the camera is pretty incredible, took time to get the right shots though...it was bright out when we were there.

Awesome

Fantastic! Makes me want to pack my suitcase! Beautiful village, and photos.

Out of all the Venice area, it is the place I would want to go back to the most!

so colourful and vivid shots.
upvoted :) @mk40

Thanks so much! The colors pop off the island as soon as you get near.

yes that is visible from your amazing shots :)

I wish more places used colors as freely.

I do, but at the same time it makes places like this that much more beautiful. It is definitely a place to see. As soon as you step off the boat you instantly feel energized.

What a lovely place! Great photos too. Thanks for sharing. :)

Thanks so much. It really is amazing, a different world from even Venice.

Beautiful village 😊

The pictures don't even do it justice really, it's like a different world.

I can only imagine 😊

Wow! Like an LSD trip!

Yeah, hahah kind of like that... wonder what an lsd trip would be like on the island actually? Anyone what to head that way and try it out? lol

Wow! I wish Austin was that colorful!

I love Austin! One of my favorite places, but yeah, nothing like Burano ;)

I have just found a new place to add to my travel wish list. I would so love to see this town in the flesh so to speak.

It really has to be seen in person, the pictures are amazing, but when you are actually there something just feels right!

nice place, I went to curacao island last year, its very colorful too

Curacao is on our list of places to visit. There are too many places to see and not enough time!
