Game of Thrones is one of the most successful and popular TV series, which is produced by US cable channel HBO and based on the novels "A Song of Ice and Fire" by George R. R. Martin. Similar to Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, it's a fantasy series, but mostly filmed at real locations. Of course you can also visit many of the original locations of Game of Thrones.
Many scenes from Season 2 of Games of Thrones were shot in the Dalmatian region of southern Croatia, especially in the two cities of Dubrovnik and Split. Dalmatia is located in the south of Croatia and has several places and islands that are perfect for a wonderful cultural and beach holiday on the Mediterranean Sea. The cities of Dubrovnik and Split are among the most beautiful cities in Dalmatia and offer unique locations that the producers of Game of Thrones could not have imagined any better. The city of Dubrovnik, also known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, is located in the south of Croatia and can look back on a thousand-year history. Even today it is one of the most beautiful cities on the Mediterranean. From the second season of Game of Thrones, the fortresses Bokar and Lovrijenac in Dubrovnik served as backdrop for Kings Landing (or alternatively for the filming locations in Malta). From the fortress wall Lovrijenac one looks on the so-called Blackwater Bay, in which Stannis Baratheon was destroyed. The Walk of Shame by Cersei Lannister was also filmed in the streets of the old town of Dubrovnik. The House of the Immortals is located in Dubrovnik, shot at the tower in the fortress Minčeta. If you want, you can even take a seat on the Iron Throne on Lokrum Island.
In the 4th season of Games of Thrones, the Diocletian's Palace in the City of Split and the Cathedral in Sibenik serve as the backdrop for the Free City of Braavos.
