Murchison falls National Park is today regarded as the largest National park in Uganda accommodating a variety of features and wildlife. Covering approximately 4,000 SqKm, the park spreads widely across 4 districts, Buliisa, Nwoya, Kiryandongo and Masindi, probably the reason for the wide collection of mother nature. These features have turned the park into one of the best places you'll visit while in Uganda.
The Murchison falls;
As the name suggests, the Murchison falls is the main symbol of the park. The name was given by a European explorer Sir Samuel Baker who named it after Sir Roderick Murchison, a British geologist. The falls is located on the course of the Nile, receiving water from both Lake Victoria and River Nile. One of the best scenes of the falls you will see is the point where the water forces itself through a pair of rocks where you will also see a rainbow form at the site. From here the water flows to Lake Albert.
The Wildlife;
The park is home to a wide range of wild animals both on land and in water. Most of the animals can be seen along the river banks on a boat cruise where giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, hippos, crocodiles visit often. And inside the park there is Budongo forest where you will find multitudes of gorillas which are usually trekked by travelers.
Bird species;
One of the best birding spots will be found in this park. More than 400 bird species can be watched while driving through the game park. Some of these include; the Shoebill stork, Black headed lapwing, Abyssinian Ground Hornbills, the crested crane which is Uganda's national symbol among many others.
Visit Murchison falls National Park and experience the wholistic beauty of nature. It's located in the North Western region of Uganda 72Km away from Masindi town which is North west of Kampala district.
