Kew gardens, London 


     This is a botanical garden that houses the largest botanical and mycological collections in the whole universe. It is found in the south west London. This garden was founded in 1840. It houses over 30,000 different kinds of plants.

               It is one of the most visited tourist attraction sites in the whole of London. It consists of an area that occupies around 121 hectares of garden and plant glass houses, four grade 1 listed buildings and 36 grade 2 listed buildings.

If you are planning to visit this area, it has the best features that are very attractive. You can visit as an individual, with students, group of friends or with your family. Some of the features that are very catchy to the tourists are inclusive of.  


Good cafe and restaurants   

          You will be able to take the best foods in this region. Some of these joints are Victoria plaza café which is at the Victoria gate, orangery restaurant near Elizabeth gate, the botanical opposite the palm house pond, white peaks café that is near Bretford gate and the pavilion restaurant (this closes during winter).

                The hotels are opened different times of the day in different days. Feel free to visit one of these hotels when you come to visit the Kew gardens. They offer delicious meals. Picnics are allowed in all places except in the glasshouses and galleries.  


Shops  

                 They have gifts, books and prints of the plants. A visitor can purchase these materials online or in the shops in the Kew Garden. These shops are inclusive of the Victoria plaza shop at Victoria gate, gallery gift shop and white peaks children’s shop near Bretford gate.  


Treetop walkway

                  This walkway is 18 metres above the ground and made of a wooden floor. It is 200 metres long. Walk on top of the trees and get to view across the gardens that is, the top of the trees, insects, birds, fungi and lichens.

The walkway is curved from the tree trunks at the bottom indicating how trees grow. Currently the walkway is under repair, but you can access other areas by the use of stairs. A lift is available for the people with disability or mobility problems. The lift also accommodates only six people at a time and during bad weather the walkway is closed for maintenance


The Hive

           This is a unique home designed to accommodate bees. These insects help in the pollination and they too require a good life. Entry to the hive ticket is included in a day ticket to Kew garden. The hive also undergoes maintenances for visitors’ safety.

 Vehicular tour

 The service involves a 72 seater trains that moves in circular routes around the garden.    


Alpine house 

This is a house designed to prevent the overheating of the plants. It is also a great place that you can learn how to take care of plants. The place is beautiful and offers the best of picnic and outings moments.

It is great to know that there are green sceneries like this to visit in London. I especially love the treetop walkway and the fact that one can experience the best foods here in the midst of such greenery.
