 THE SAGRADA FAMILIA, BARCELONA, SPAIN

The place where art, history and beauty shows itself!

Nowadays, churches are visited more by tourism than by faith, but still, they are still tourist places that cannot be disregard in our list of places to visit within any country that we are going to visit. In this opportunity, we will talk about the church that you cannot miss if you are making a trip to Spain, specifically in Barcelona.

It is, nothing more and nothing less, than the second most visited church in Europe, after the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome. We speak then, of the church of the Sagrada Familia.

The most curious and remarkable fact that we can comment on this church, is the fact that it was begun to build in 1882 and today, it has not yet finished building. This church was so large and also so detailed.

The architect who created the Sagrada Familia, Gaudí, began with the plans of the church construction in his time, and how he knew that his construction was going to go through too many generations of work, he left, in addition to the plans, a very detailed small model of everything that would go in the church.

Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi (Sagrada Familia)

The overall style of the church is a modern style. But, however, what comes to be the crypt of the church has a neo-Gothic style, while the interior of the church has an organic style. All this can demonstrate the artistic evolution of an architect like Gaudi in the face of his greatest work.

This church, without a doubt, is the best and greatest example we can have of Catalan modernist art. In this way, it became in one of the most visited churches in the world and one of the most visited monuments in Spain. That is why, if we are going to travel to Spain, this place cannot be disregard in our tourism plans.

It is the largest and most detailed church we can find inside that country, even taking into account that it still has time to be completely finished.

If we want to visit it by tourism we can go in any day of the year, but instead if we want to visit it by faith and attend one of its many masses we can choose to see one on any day inside the crypt, both in Catalan and Spanish, and every Sunday in the central nave.
