Kanyakumari - The Small Coastal town of India

in travel •  6 years ago  (edited)

Kanyakumari is one of the most popular places to visit in India. There are couple of things here which makes this place special and interesting to visit. The most famous is the Sunrise and the Sunset. People come here from far to see the Sunrise and Sunset, and indeed it is very beautiful. When we made our trip to Kerala this was specifically added to the itinerary for the very same reason, because being so close to the place I did not want to miss it.

Other than the Sunrise and Sunset the other famous thing here is the Swami Vivekananda rock memorial which is in the center of the sea and you need to take the local boat transport to visit it. Swami Vivekananda was a Spiritual teacher and founder of the Ramakrishna Foundation whose mission was to spread the message of Karma Yoga and service for the needy. The presence of his organization is widely spread out in the west also, where in his time he would go and spread the messages of Humanity. He is truly one of the best Spiritual teachers of all times. I have always been intrigued by his teachings and wanted to visit this place once to witness his part of life.

The another interesting part of Kanyakumari is; it is located at the confluence of the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.

Next to the Swami Vivekananda rock memorial is the Thiruvalluvar Statue. He was a very famous poet and philosopher. The Statue is around 130 ft tall. When we visited there was work going on. Both of these places are a sight to visit.

This is the is the Thiruvalluvar Statue.

The Sunrise at Kanyakumari

The Sunset; I found the Sunset more beautiful. Anyways I am a fan of Sunsets.

Though this place is a very good tourist attraction, sadly it is not very well maintained. The quality of hotels are just average even for a good rating hotel. We booked the hotel right in front of the see overlooking the memorial and it was meant to be a 4 star one, but was very average. The other thing I did not appreciate was while going towards the Sunset point there is a big dumping ground which kind of gives you a dirty feeling while reaching to see something so beautiful. I am sure they could have thought of some other place and why on the way to some tourist sight.

Kanyakumari is famous for Art work and is a grand center of Art. On the street side also you see all the art work souvenirs being sold. The other famous thing you get here is the Conch, I bought one but till date have not been able to learn to use it. It is very difficult and takes away a lot of breadth. Sometimes by fluke it just happens. :-)

2 days are more then enough in this place. It is a very small town but rich with history and culture. I enjoyed my trip. Hope you all enjoyed watching the place with me.

Yes, Hopefully they can generate good revenue through tourism after the restoration work.

We should learn how to maintain and preserve from the west.

Third paragraph looks unfinished

That's really one important aspect, our guys make but the maintenance is all left to god's will which is a sad state of affair.
Thanx you got my attention. It is unfinished, will do it.

It is indeed an amazing place @nainaztengra and I see that they are building that very big statue and it will be famous one day and I am thinking that it will attract more local and foreign tourist too.

Yes, hopefully. It's a small but an interesting tourist place.
