Travel Diaries - Visit the Ancient land of Jordan

in travel •  6 years ago  (edited)

Jordan is one of the peaceful countries though it is surrounded by places of conflict. Jordan has many attractive sites to visit and the culture there is very fascinating. The people there have a very liberal thinking, they have a free lifestyle and you do not see many restrictions unlike the other Arab nations. Though I found the country a little dirty but there was some sense of belonging in the place. You feel very much warm and welcomed. People are very courteous and friendly.....

The only thing that I knew about Jordan was the Dead Sea and I always wanted to visit there but was still a lot behind on my bucket list. Jordan trip happened out of the blue for me and I am glad I got an opportunity to visit this country.
I missed to visit the most important place in Jordan "Petra" due to lack of time, but I managed to see quite a few places in my short span of 4 days in the place. We visited Amman the capital of Jordan and we could cover quite a few important places there.

Let me walk you through some interesting sights of Amman

The Citadel
It is on the highest hill of Amman and you can have a overall view of the City from this place. This is the site of ancient Rabbath-Ammon. The most important thing to see here is the Temple of Hercules.

The Roman Theater
This was originally built by the Nabataeans around 2000 years ago, but once the Romans arrived they expanded and remodeled the place, hence it is known as the Roman Theater. The place is still used for cultural activities.

The Jordan Musuem
We had a quick visit to the Museum. The Museum was ok, there were some interesting things that caught my eye, which I will share here.
The Anthropoid Coffin of the Ancient time, where they would mummify the body along with all the belongings of the person. They believed that the soul left their body after death and will return back again to be reunited with the body after it was buried.

This depicts the traditional Jordanian living

Ancient rulers

The Blue Mosque, It is quite famous, though I found the inside architecture very simple and not much fascinating.

Baptism site of Jesus Christ
Baptism site of Jesus Christ at Bethany is an hour drive from the city. It is a very fascinating experience to witness a place where Jesus Christ was baptized by St John The Baptist. Whether you visit this place for religious purpose or just as a tourist, this place will enchant you with its deep rooted history. It is good to have a tour guide here, else you will not be able to relate to any of the the structures. This site is at the border of Palestine. The best thing I liked about this site is the peaceful border of Jordan and Palestine. Most of the borders are filled up with tension and heavily armed with security guards, but here you see a complete different picture. The border has church on both the sides and people are so peacefully spending time at the river side.

Here you see the John Baptist Church and the Baptismal Pool.

The Jordan-Palestine Border
I wish all the borders of the world were like this.
This does not mean that there is no security at this place. Before you enter this place, there is a thorough security check but near the Church area you will find a serene and peaceful environment.

The one place that I always wanted to visit the Dead Sea, once I was here I did not find it so fascinating. Probably cause the side we visited from it was very messy and we did not have time to go further down. The place could be maintained in a much better manner, knowing it's such a huge attraction.
You will find natural sea salts all over on the beach. I could get a handful of it. It was winter time when we visited so could not really take a dip in the sea, all I could do was soak up my feet.

This is a very traditional Jordanian way of having meals. We enjoyed our meals with our local friends from Amman. The centre big dish goes around so you can keep moving and fill up yourself to your heart's content.

Hope you all enjoyed the sites of Jordan with me.

As a Christian it is good for me to see the Jordan river even if it is just a picture because it is the place where The Lord Jesus Christ was baptized @nainaztengra Indeed Jordan is a special place and not much trouble taking place there unlike in its neighbor Palestine.

Yes indeed, it is a very special place and the energy around is so good, you feel so relaxed and peaceful.

It looks pretty good although I haven't been there yet. I hope to get there, soon!

I am happy to see friends visiting this place, because I like to enjoy the atmosphere in Jordan, very beautiful, @nainaztengra, ☺️😊

Thank you @jhoni

Too bad you only had such a short time to visit Jordan.
I've been there a couple years ago and highlights for me next to Amman were ofcource Petra, the ruins of the ancient roman city Jerash, the dead sea and a 3 day hike in Wadi Rum.

I could not visit Petra that was a little sad, you would need a minimum of 2 days for that and I was running short of time, but nevertheless I could see quite a few places in Amman.

it pretty looks like the place from one of the Aquaman's scenes

Ahhaa, I have not seen the movie so don't know 😊

Historic place and history.
Cool pictures.
Thank you sharing :)

That place looks absolutely astounding and interesting.

It is a fabulous place @tombeast
