Melbourne, Australia - A City Done Right

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

For the past 17 years of my 26 year long life I’ve wanted to travel the world. This September I finally got a tiny glimpse of the reality of that dream when I stayed in Melbourne, Australia for two weeks!

First glimpse of Australia!

Melbourne has been dubbed the “most livable city in the world,” and I whole-heartedly agree. I’ll even say that it’s a city done right. It’s tremendously devoid of litter. I was shocked at the lack of air pollution. Public transportation was everywhere. There was the right balance between maintaining its history yet allowing the city and its people develop and express themselves. It’s safe. There was a pervasive coffee culture. Vividly green and fragrant parks were everywhere. I could go on and on! I’ve never intended on living in a city, but I left with Melbourne being one of the top places I would want to live, town or country.

During my trip I stayed in the Flinders Backpackers hostel in the heart of the CBD. It’s common for people from all over the world to backpack across Australia, and I was in the middle of that sub-culture in this place! I made fast friends with a German woman, met more Chileans than Australians, a handful of other Europeans, and even fewer fellow Americans. All of them were staying in the city for about half a year while working. I was the odd duck relaxing on holiday!

I’m going to interrupt myself here.

I could write about what sites and activities I saw and did during this trip but that seems to be overdone for travel blogs. And to be honest I’m not passionate about writing about that. So instead over my next several posts I’ll tell you what I learned through my experience about traveling, myself, and how to navigate life to reach our fullest potential. Naturally I’ll be including what I did in Melbourne so there will be the best of both worlds!

Here’s a list of the posts I will be making in the upcoming days:

•Curiosity and Nat-da-Cat
•Fitness and Fulfillment of Goals
•Jesus was a Couchsurfer
•Making Fast Friends
•The Heart Compass
•The Balance of Service and Self-Love
•Learning to Let Go
•Connection Through Food, Music, and Coffee

Melburn is all the way beauty full thank you

I cannot wait to see all of your adventures. I like how you are breaking up and including other topics besides the travel itself :)

Thanks!! Traveling is awesome in that you get to see completely new things, but there's so much you learn about how everything connects, too. THAT'S why I really want to travel. :)
