In "La Juanita", small town of Maldonado (Uruguay), exists this place not very well-known.
An old quarry that it is not known by anyone, to get there you must go to this small seaside town, close to its sister resort José Ignacio, pearl of the Uruguayan coast, known for its high level life in the midst of nature and sea, a former fishing village illuminated by a lighthouse, icon of the place.
If you want, you can see it here ...

Since I was little I feel very identified with this seaside resort since I used to spend summers with my family in a house that we had there, many things happened to me and were those unforgettable days between cousins, friends and beach.

The quarry was one of those magical places in the village, an adventure for us boys, after arriving at the only improvised square, where there were no roads for vehicles, walked along a path between sand and earth forest, not very long. And crossing a fence you find that small lagoon, formed of groundwater that ascends to the surface like the other lagoons formed there, then you know that you came to the area of the old quarry.
The first thing that receives you is a huge Ombú, native tree of the zone, a long life and very special.

Then you must choose between a couple of paths the right one and now yes we go into the old quarry, always adorned by wild weeds and shrubs like the "tail of fox" and "acacias" traditional of the area.
In that part, ends the mantle of grass that covers almost everything and is seen on the ground ever worked by man and also nature, erosion of the canyons and colors in the layers of the earth make it beautiful .

The truth is that I went alone to take some photos and I did not expect to meet anyone, but the moment I left I found some friends who planned to take a dip to cool off, so we went to another even smaller but deep lagoon at the end of the quarry.

They say that it is about 9 meters deep, I do not know of someone who has touched bottom but if it is very dark and deep. As it has a small viewpoint that serves perfect for a high nailing, you can not miss it on a summer day to vary the beach.
