The Frangipani Resort & Spa
The greenest resort in Malaysia !
Wow to have the reputation as the most eco-friendly resort in Malaysia. This I had to check out!
Waze gets me to the resort and it’s along Pantai Cenang. I had booked a beach-facing chalet for two nights. Check out the frangipani booking websitefor good deals. I got mine at RM1781.84.
The cute welcome sign at the resort lobby
The check in is easy and the staff are friendly, however just a travel note- try and arrive after 2pm because their check-out time is 3pm. So get on a later flight and get a later return flight as well.
The resort has many bougainvilla flowers... should have more Frangipanni trees ?
More Bougainvillas , maybe they should have called it Bougainvilla Resort? Okay doesn’t sound the same.
Warning to guests that these are Jellyfish infested waters. If you do get stung this article has pictures Jelly Fish First Aid
I am waiting for my room to be ready so I traipse down to the Mentari coffee house for some food. I pass the pool and notice that there are many fallen leaves all over . Looks like that’s what you have to deal with when you have huge trees planted everywhere. The grounds are covered with badly manicured grass and the furniture is broken down and old. Certainly not what I expected for the price!
There are two swimming pools, normal and salt water. Both were quite shallow and pointless Asbyron far as pools go. Full of dead leaves and ants
Overpriced but I was too tired and lazy to go venture outside the resort
I order a Singapore bee Hoon which comes with loads of baby octopus and a large prawn. I savour it slowly because I will have to wait another two hours before I can get my room.
After lunch I make a visit to the front desk and thank god my room is ready. A nice bellboy takes my bag and leads me to my room. Number 314, a beach villa about 10 steps from the beach. I see lots of bikini clad foreigners sunbathing across from my villa. And they are just soaking up the scorching Malaysian sun. Brave souls, I wonder if they realise that one should only bake oneself like a lobster before 12noon. After that you might just be inviting some trouble for your skin?
On the way to my room, I pass a small hut where a massage table has been laid out. RM 50 for massages, interesting.

The beach villa is quaint and covered in shrubs which according to the video featuring the owner Anthony Tan, who has purposely planted these shrubs to lower the temperature in each chalet. Smart and considerate owner.
Side view with the outdoor rain shower
View from the patio
The large King sized bed
Welcoming decor
Weathered Furniture but not broken so that’s acceptable. There is a safe for valuables and bathrobes
Outdoor rainshower with really great water pressure
Bathtub and toilet which overflowed on the second day
Standard Hotel amenieties
My toilet had a broken flush and needed repair on the second day.
The grounds are badly kept and not maintained the way a boutique resort and spa should be. Quite depressing really.
The staff are a little better than the Golden Sands but there were barely any activities and nothing is open or awake and it’s a Friday!
After I have a swim at the salt water pool I venture out to the beach which is full of garbage. I guess the beach must be the same all along Pantai Cenang.
Stop littering the ocean people! No beach isn’t safe anymore.
Peace & Love Niki
