Morocco: a world to explore - part 1

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hi Steemians, welcome back.
Are you ready to explore the Morocco with me ?

I will tell you about my trip city by city, each with its own post. It will help us focus on the peculiarities and beauties each city can offer.

The adventure starts in Turin, Italy on December 26. Nobody knows what to do for the holiday to thank the past year and wait for the new one (2015).. Then my girlfriend realized we had a friend who was studying in Morocco at that period, in the city of Rabat. The decision was taken very soon.. let's go to Morocco.
Out first stop will be Casa Blanca !

Let's take the flight and land in Casa Blanca.

Casa Blanca

This is the economic capital of Morocco, overlooking the Mediterranean sea.
Most of you might know it because of the famous Hollywood movie Casa Blanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

Being the capital of the country it is one of the main trade centers in Morocco, but at the same time it suffers the overpopulation problem which immediately turns into poverty along the streets.

Despite the poverty, you can find here a very genuine and deep experience, which starts from street-food, going through Medina's small street, Suq (local markets) and most important, local people.

Start visiting the city from the "new city" going to the Medina, the old city of casaBlanca, where main trades and markets take place.

This is the main gate of the Medina (old city, downtown). This Medina has many gates, each one representing an entrance for a typical market or district.

This food was delicious. The man was cooking these snails for about 4 hours in a spicy sauce. You can eat a cup of them and also have a cup of sauce to drain your stomach. This man is well known in Casablanca and he is the best one serving this street food.

Smelling spices whose perfume can be easily identified is somehow hypnotic. Curcuma, Mint, Cilantro, Curry, Red Chili.. everything you know and event what you don't know can be found in these bazars.

Drink the Tea with Mint, it's hot and sweet.

Walking through the Market's Bazars is hipnotic and you
can easily get impressed by how many things these merchants sell and the art of bargaining with them to try to buy objects at as small price as you can.

Look around at people and their habits.
Let them in your soul and breathe the Marocco.

This is the view from the room we rented in downtown. After 10 PM the streets suddenly become empty The lights are so soft that you can't see at every corner. We felt very involved!

The mosque

In my life i didn't had the chance to visit so many mosque, but certainly this one is one of the most beautiful i have ever seen.

What impressed me the most is it's building location: it's over the sea!
When you look at this mosque from the nearby streets, you can feel like it fluctuates on the sea, even if actually it was built on a platform.

This Mosque is called Hassan II mosque, and it was built on 1993 ac. Ot can contain up to 25000 persons inside and 80000 outside. It has the most height Minaret in the world, 210 mt.

I kindly suggest to enter it and to be accompanied by a guide (you can find them next to the main entrance). He will explain you about all the styles and materials used to decorate the interior of he Mosque,Arabian, Spanish style using Carrara Marble, stones and Murano glass.

Precious materials from all over the world make this Mosque a MUST TO VISIT.

The Tajine

Finally try the Tajine cooking method with your preferred meal (excluding Pork of course) or mix vegetables, or even the famous Cous-Cous.
You can find it in all restaurants or even along the street.

We decided to try these 2 specialties in all cities we have been, to understand the slightly different tastes of the regions.
