I had previously written about our trip to Hakone - a scenic, mountainous region that is just West of Tokyo. Here are more pictures from our trip. Getting in is convenient with the JR rail pass which allows you to take the Shinkansen to Odawara station before switching to a slower train that goes to Hakone. It's a scenic route and one of my regrets from the trip was not taking any photos of this journey as i was focused on navigating and handling the luggage.
The Ryokan (Traditional Japanese Inn) Where We Stayed
A beautiful and simple inn. There's a traditional hot spring on site as well as traditional Japanese meals served.
Fishermen on Lake Ashi
We took a short walk from our hotel to Lake Ashi nearby. It's the main lake and how we're getting to the spot to see Mt. Fuji from. Peaceful and serene with no crowd...at the moment.
Glimpse of Mt. Fuji from the Cable Car
The next day ,we took the pirate ship to the boiling valley of Owakudani. A cable car ride up and we caught our first glimpse of Mt. Fuji.
Getting a good view of Mt. Fuji is tough
So we ate some eggs boiled in sulphurous water
Don't be fooled by the look of the egg. They're actually quite tasty. And if the legend is right about eating 2 eggs for a long life, we're all set :)
Here's how the eggs are made
With our stomachs full, we look for Mt. Fuji Again
Time to head back to our hotel
After spending half a day looking at Mt. Fuji, it was time to head back. So we head down Owakudani via the cable car and take the pirate ship back to our hotel. As a reward for all our "hard work", we reward ourselves with ice-cream. The ice-cream is fantastic soft-serve ice-cream that Japan is famous for. Recommended especially if you're there in summer.
Time for a traditional Japanese dinner
Back at the hotel, we got ready for dinner. We had arranged to have a traditional Japanese meal and we weren't disappointed. So many different varieties of food and all very fresh. Eating in our kimonos just enhanced the traditional experience.
Time to say goodbye to Hakone
Sadly, we couldn't stay longer in Hakone. To head back, we planned to take the bus to the train station. The bus stop is by Lake Ashi, allowing us to take more photos of the beautiful lake and to catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji once again.
I hope you've enjoyed our pictures of Hakone and Mt. Fuji. I'll be posting more pictures of our travels soon, thanks for all your encouragement, comments, resteems and follows :))
Nice photos of the area, love Mt Fuji such a dramatic mountain. My grandad lived in Japan from 1909-1920 and learnt about pottery there.

Thanks, @simonleach :) It must've been exciting to stay in Japan during that period. It was a period of rapid modernization if i remember my history textbooks correctly.

Yes that was another time ... the Emperor was God.
I would like to visit myself and follow some of the places my grandad went to :)

What a great travel idea. I'd love to do the same! There was a lot more adventure to travel back then, with the whole train and ship experience. :)

There truly are! If you're going for more than a week, i highly recommend getting the JR rail pass. It made travelling so much easier and we ended up seeing a lot more than we would have otherwise. For example, we just took a 400 km trip to Hiroshima and back on a whim.
