During one of our previous visits to the UK we decided to take a short trip over to France since I had never been before. We were going to be in Paris for a couple of days so we thought we'd have a walk around town and save the museums for the next full day.
Here we're walking across the famous bridge with all the locks attached to it. You can see the Musée d'Orsay in the background where we plan to visit in the morning.
There was a tradition of couples putting their names on the locks and attaching them to the railing but I recently learned that they have been removing them. According to this article the tradition started back in 2006 in Rome, then spread to Paris.
Apparently the locks were beginning to make the railings buckle. It was a nice sentiment while it lasted!
I remember that it was particularly cold that day, at least from Amanda's perspective. I rarely, if ever get cold. We tend to travel at weird times of the year when there are not a lot of tourists. Since we work from home it makes it a lot easier to plan these types of trips. I can't imagine going back to working a 9-5 job!
As you can see, poor Amanda is freezing her butt off and is wearing my coat. Meanwhile I was wearing a tee-shirt and sweating. I remember locals looking at me like I was nuts!
Here's another picture of Amanda looking cold. If I am being fair, she pretty much always looks cold - so I should just say: Here is Amanda looking normal.
You can get a pretty good idea of what time of year that it was by the fact that all the leaves are gone, and the sky is pretty grey. The air was cool and crisp, just how I like it. I really don't know why I always live in places like Los Angeles and Florida.
My body is just not built for it! It must be my northern European ancestry.
Paris is actually quite a beautiful place with a lot to see. I think one could spend months exporing all that this town has to offer.
Does anyone know what these bags are for? They were hanging from most of the trees along the path. I've never seen anything like them back home, so I am baffled.
We came across these buskers on our walk. They sounded great! I know I took some video footage which I'll have to post at some point. If I can ever dig it out of my archives, of course! No one has ever accused me of being organized.
I realize that it would probably be very cost prohibitive, but sometimes I wish that there were more structures here in the US like there are in Europe. We do have some lovely architecture here, but not like you see over across the pond.
There is also quite a lot of sculpture scattered about. Bronze and stone statues can be found pretty much anywhere you go in town.
After walking around for a bit we made it just in time to grab some lunch before the restaurant closed. I can't remember where we ate, but I seem to remember that we went inside of a museum. Maybe someone will recognize it?
I remember that this year I decided to shave all around my head and leave the top, which I pulled into a mohawk with some mousse. Amanda was laughing because when we arrived in the UK, there were a lot of kids doing the same style. I wasn't even trying to be in fashion. But that's me I guess. Accidentally stylin'
After eating it was time to head back to the hotel for some sleep. We had a long day ahead of us walking for miles around the various museums. I am working on getting those photos together and will be doing a post shortly. Stay tuned!
Hi @nuthman, well the tradition of locking is new for me. I have not heard about it before.
Personally I like cold season. Moreover you are looking cute and handsome in that picture. Every style suits on you.

Thanks, @coolguy222. The lock thing was new to me as well. I think that a lot of people saw it in a movie, and then copied it in real life. I haven't seen the film, but they kind of hinted to it in the link that I put in the post!

Thanks, @robertandrew. I have been lucky in that way. I would never have gotten to see all this stuff had I not gotten together with an English girl who loves to take lots of trips. Left to my own devices I only end up wander around this country.

Thanks! Yeah, we went another time and there were people everywhere. That was a completely different experience. I love how each country in Europe has it's own style of ancient architecture. I think next time we want to visit Spain.

It is nice to take those locks and sell them to the scrap yard :>
But really, Paris is a lover's get-away place because most believe that it is a romantic venue for couples @nuthman
Europe really is beautiful.

I agree with you, @cryptopie. I have never been an especially romantic person but I do appreciate the sentiment. I am certainly a sentimental person and can be quite nostalgic at times.

The city of love, wine and cheese! Its always a dream to visit there at least once in my life. I also saw that lock bridge somewhere in the movies ! People use to lock their secret wishes and throw the key into the river right?
I also am confused Why are those jute bags hanging from the streets. Hhaha! Anyways the street musician's, the awesome sculptures of the lion, rhino and the soldiers and the amazing environment have amazed me a lot and have increased my love towards France. Your hair style is looking cool ! Amanda is looking more sweet this time, is it for those ear plugs? 😊
