Exploring Venice - Canals and Houses

On my first day in Venice I had the afternoon to explore as the sun came down. I thought it would be best to start on the right side of the canal and work myself in over the main bridge and to Piazza San Marco, often known in English as St Mark's Square. It’s amazing how much you can see in one day and it makes sense that some people would spend only one day here, but I personally think three or four days is best. It’s a little expensive but it gives new meaning to the city and you’re able to admire it in all different lights and times of day.

I personally think Venice is most beautiful at night when most of the tourists have hopped back on their cruise ships and have headed somewhere else. St Mark’s Square is especially full everyday of the week so around dusk gives you a quiet feeling and you can stroll around the square with more freedom. it’s a totally different atmosphere and is quite beautiful how the light splays.

My main focus with the photography on this day was just getting an overall view of the landscape and trying to work out the different things that caught my eye. I have to say the canals were especially great to capture and I was also drawn to the different textures and shades of colour on the buildings. The buildings are pretty unique in Venice and create an interesting aesthetic. Here are a few of the photos that I took on my first day, more coming very soon.

Great pictures again, sir! Love the first one, you should have mentioned yoo took it from inside a spaceship which casually left its cargo door opened 😉

haha That's my favourite photo. I randomly spotted it when walking along. So good :D

I've always had Venice on my to-go-list. The houses are a classic and just riding on those waters are definitely worthwhile.

I just love Venice. Such a beautiful town. Lovely to be transplanted back there with your images and writing.

No problem. Glad you liked them :)

Wow! Great pictures man. ;)
Keep it up!

Thanks. I will try my best :) Thanks for commenting.

Awesome photography and these are like postcards! It's also my dream destination :)

Completely agree with you on how Venice is more enjoyable in the evening. Fewer people and a relaxed atmosphere. You don't get that on a short day trip...

So jealous, Venice is one of my top destinations I want to visit. It's basically a crazy fantasy novel city.

Beautiful photos of the canals! I am just curious, how much is a gondola ride now?

I think it depends, but around 100 euros last time I checked. Some crazy prices in Venice by the way haha

Oh, I remember Venice...
your beautiful photos bring it all back. Thank you.
