Fastest Private Passenger Aircraft in the World

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Introduction

We had previously seen the fastest military and fastest commercial passenger aircraft in the world but there is one more segment. A segment which likes to travel above the first class available on passenger aircraft and maybe one level below the Airforce One (on a lighter note), how do you find a solution for such a need? Simple, make a whole new line of aircraft. And that is what it is – bang comes the line of private jets or chartered jets.

So how do these private jets stack up? Are they really fast or just a nice luxury bed in the sky? Let’s find out.

Fastest: Cessna Citation X+

The Cessna was one of the fastest private passenger aircraft, and barring a small blip, still continues to be. The blip was due to the number two aircraft on this list taking the fastest aircraft crown for four years in between. However, the king has returned and taken his crown. The Cessna is the fastest among this group of aircraft, capable of doing a Mach 0.935.

Second Fastest: Gulfstream G650

This was the aircraft which was fastest from 2010 to 2014 and beat the Citation X by doing a Mach 0.925. However, in 2014, Cessna came back with the Citation X+ which could do a Mach 0.935 and thereby, reclaim its spot. The Gulfstream is still quite fast and can actually be faster than most operational passenger aircraft.

Third Fastest:

Dassault Falcon 7X Falcon 7X comes from the Dassault family of aircraft. These are the makers of some cool Air Force planes so obviously, you would expect the 7X to be fast. It is indeed fast and can do a cool Mach 0.9. This is the first private aircraft to get complete fly-by-wire controls. It was soon followed by Gulfstream G650. All said and done their aircraft look sexy, in my opinion.

Fourth Fastest: Bombardier Global 6000

The Bombardier Global 6000 is next in line on the fastest list capable of doing a Mach 0.89. This particular model was an improvement over the Global 5000 and the next-gen 7000/8000 will be based on this model.

Back to Base

All of the mentioned models are fast and will become faster as time goes by. There is a good reason for that, after all, the passenger segment is going to get supersonic-flights sometime soon, so how can this segment lag behind. However, don’t expect the positions to change much unless Bombardier and Dassault plan to bring in their more powerful military engines to this segment.

Watch this space till then!!
