We hiked KoKo Head and it was a pain in the a$$

Hello!

One of our weekend traditions since moving to Hawaii (we have done it once so far but I'm still going to call it a tradition) is to explore and do a hiking trail every Sunday.
We decided to skip the main tourist hike Diamond Head and find something that the locals love. Our uber driving who just happened to be a personal hiking guide in her spare time (!!) recommended Koko Head Crater Trail and it was amazing -ly painful.

The track used to be a tram line so there is path clearly mapped out for you - essentially it is a whole lotta stairs. And a long way to the top....if you wanna rock n'roll (sorry, had to.) #dadjoke

After the first 100 steps you're feeling pretty fresh.
After about 300 the tram line becomes a bridge. The ground being pretty far away! Fear factor - HIGH. The 'try not to look down' method definitely was a no go- as you HAVE to look down to make sure you don't step to your death. Okay maybe that's an exaggeration but you do NOT want to fall in.
Once that's over (phew) the stairs just get steeper and steeper, and more uneven! The top feels like miles away with the burning sun and a burning ass... No gym was needed that day. #bootygoals

At around 800 steps you're asking people who are climbing down how far you have to go. You're constantly passing people who are resting and the sweats really starting to shine. At 1000 you're just a few til the top! Thank goodness! And the view is completely worth it.
A 360 degree panorama.

After many a high-5 and few pats on the back we were feeling pretty good about ourselves. So proud that we had gotten up the horrendous stairs, until a woman running up with her sausage dog on the lead gave our ego's a little hit.
We have thick skin though ;)

Definitely recommend this trail if you are in Honolulu. It was a around 20 minute uber trip from Waikiki or else around a 45 minute bus which as a stop right near the trail. The difficulty wasn't too high, you can rest for as long as you want and take as long as you need. We did fall over a couple times though (all caught on the Go-Pro eyeroll), so definitely suggest being a bit careful.

See you in my next post!

Spectacular view!
And a very nice tradition too!
We are trying to do the same here the last year but it is impossible to be alert every weekend. Still, a tradition is a tradition!
