How I secure my overlanding gas bottles

in travel •  6 years ago

We always carry two LPG bottles when we travel overland. One bottle for cooking and the second for lighting.

In the early days I used to strap the bottles to the top of the roof rack using a ratchet strap. This was not all that safe, so after checking out a few gas bottle holders in the market I settled for the Front Runner universal clamp. This has worked very well for me over time. The beauty is, since it is a universal fit, if I was to upgrade the bottles then I can use the same bracket.

Looks like a good system. We decided against to gas bottles in the end and haven't looked back. We went for a two burner stove that runs off methylated spirits and we absolutely love it, mainly because we don't have to carry around gas bottles and methylated spirits is so cheap. The other day we got a little wood gasification stove which just uses twigs and that is amazing as well. I love everybody's different systems and setups and what works for them. I can't wait for our big Overland trip when the husband finishes the Land Rover
