The " Holy Chapel” corner. Esquina Santa Capilla. Caracas, Venezuela.
This corner is located downtown Caracas, on Urdaneta Avenue. It is the centre of the Venezuela´s government. Many of the govern buildings are around this chapel. It is said that the first Venezuela´s mass was given in this point. Diego de Losada, Caracas discoverer built a small chapel in this place. But, since Caracas is a very seismic place, this small church and the subsequent ones were destroyed by earthquakes. In the year 1883 the church disappeared due to an earthquake. So, Venezuela´s president at that time, Antonio Guzman Blanco, gave the order to build a new church. It is a replica of the “Saint Chapel” in Paris.
On Agosto 5th, 1926, his holy father the pope Pio XI gave the chapel the name of Minor Chapel.
It is worth the visit. Inside the minor chapel you are going to find very interesting pieces of arts, which are incredibly beautiful. Not even Caracas citizens know them. I would say it is a hidden treasure downtown Caracas, Venezuela.
Come to Venezuela and visit this interesting place.
