[Greek Adventure] Santorini - The Island with the sunset and colourful beaches [Part 2 - The sunset]

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hi Steemians!

After my trip to Budapest, I'm back and ready to resume my Greek Adventure. We left off last time with the two famous beaches of Santorini, the red and black beach and now I'm going to bring you the fantastic views of the Caldera.

The number one reason why people travel to Santorini is for the sunset.

The feeling that you get as you watch the bright orange-yellow ball disappear over the horizon has you contemplating life and everything that you have done up to that point. You question how you could have let such a beautiful view stay undiscovered by yourself for so long and you wish the view never disappeared.

If you're by yourself, like I was, you pat yourself on the back for coming to a place like Oia, specifically, and after the sun fades you frantically start searching for the next place in the world you can get a view like that.

If you're with another person, then you hold hands and breathe a sigh of happiness that you can share such a beautiful moment with your significant other.

BUT, the magic doesn't stop when the sun sets, it continues on into the night as you watch the hotels and shops light up along the caldera and illuminate your night. Some could say that it is equally as beautiful as the sunset that just happened.

The best place to capture such a sunset from Oia, as I mentioned above, and it's situated in the upper left of the Santorini. The easiest way to get there would be to drive there, but you can also take one bus from Fira and there are a lot of buses so there is no need to worry.

Oia isn't great just for the sunset, there are also a lot of restaurants and small shops that give the place a sense of culture and excitement that you can't get in many places.

My strongest memory of my time in Oia was when I was sitting on one of the ledges and looking over the buildings that had lit up. I reflected on the views that I could get in my suburban town and compared it to sights that the people living in Oia. I wondered what effect such views could have on my mentality and I realised that it must be one of the reasons why the locals all had such big smiles on their faces.

If I ever feel like I'm lost and not sure what path to take in the future, I know I can count on this place to revitalise me and give me peace of mind so that I can take a step in the right direction.

This is very similar to Bodrum

Just had a look at Bodrum and it's kind of similar, but I've never been there so not completely sure how it is. Maybe I'll visit there to see how it is!

kr-guide!

Woff, woff!

Hello @peterkkim96, Nice to meet you!

I'm a guide dog living in KR community. I can see that you want to contribute to KR community and communicate with other Korean Steemians. I really appreciate it and I'd be more than happy to help.

KR tag is used mainly by Koreans, but we give warm welcome to anyone who wish to use it. I'm here to give you some advice so that your post can be viewed by many more Koreans. I'm a guide dog after all and that's what I do!

Tips:

  • If you're not comfortable to write in Korean, I highly recommend you write your post in English rather than using Google Translate.
Unfortunately, Google Translate is terrible at translating English into Korean. You may think you wrote in perfect Korean, but what KR Steemians read is gibberish. Sorry, even Koreans can't understand your post written in Google-Translated Korean.
  • So, here's what might happen afterward. Your Google-Translated post might be mistaken as a spam so that whales could downvote your post. Yikes! I hope that wouldn't happen to you.
  • If your post is not relevant to Korea, not even vaguely, but you still use KR tag, Whales could think it as a spam and downvote your post. Double yikes!
  • If your post is somebody else's work(that is, plagiarism), then you'll definitely get downvotes.
  • If you keep abusing tags, you may be considered as a spammer. It may result to put you into the blacklist. Oops!

I sincerely hope that you enjoy Steemit without getting downvotes. Because Steemit is a wonderful place. See? Korean Steemians are kind enough to raise a guide dog(that's me) to help you!

Woff, woff! 🐶

Okay :)
I'll be more careful and only post the articles that I have fully translated in Korean in the future!

Beautiful. I'm looking forward to going here in May (hopefully).

You won't regret it!
Every minute there was a minute well spent :)

Again, love your photos! Also love the description, sunsets make me contemplate life as well, but in a good way! :)

Feels great to know you enjoyed it!
I can't get enough of sunsets and sunrises, especially when its at the ocean's front :)

Great post, the photos are incredible. Greece is next on my list so I’m doing a bit of research 🙂
