Meet the koalas in Australia

in travel •  7 years ago

This is the first story I post on Steemit. I travel a lot due to my job and I love to share some of the amazing experiences I go through.
The best way to start is by sharing my most recent trip. It was in June when I went to Brisbane, Australia.

As you all know, Australia is the land of koalas. Notice I say "koalas" and not "koala bears". As I learned there, koalas are not bears at all. Also, some might not know that koalas are an endangered species. That is why the Lone Pine Sanctuary was created.
The park is located one hour away from Brisbane. Accessible by boat via the Brisbane river.
The river cruise is already an awesome experience by itself as you pass through several Brisbane neighborhoods. Some beautiful mansions can be seen as you go north into the river.

The Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary was created in 1927 and is home to more than 130 koalas. There is also a zone where kangaroos and wallabies wander freely and kids (and adults) can approach, feed and touch them.

The koalas live on trees and feed on eucalyptus leaves. They are very sleepy animals. They are all round the park.

For those that have never been close to a koala or kangaroo, this is an experience that cannot be missed.
