BARBADOS THE LAND OF FLYING FISH - MY VISIT TO THE NORTH POINT & EAST COAST OF THE ISLAND

in travel •  7 years ago

HELLO STEEMIANS!

So as I said in my first post in steemit: INTRODUCING MYSELF TO THE STEEMIT COMUNITY, I am presently living and working in Barbados, well at least temporary. In January I had some free days of work (God, I needed them) so I went with my cousins to the north point & east coast of this beautiful Island in the Caribbean about 2 hours of drive from the capital city of Bridgetown, and I was left in awe with the views when I got there, no words to describe, so I will leave the pictures and you guys comment what best describes, I'll try my best to leave the best quality, and even links to some high resolution panorama shot I took.

The Animal Flower Cave

The Animal Flower Cave is located at the most northerly point of Barbados. The name "Animal Flower Cave" comes from the sea anemones found in the pools of the cave. Some of these pools are deep enough for you to swim in.
There are also several openings looking out to sea, offering spectacular views! Unlucky for me I didn't get to go down to this cave, but I will soon revisit and complete that task and share with you guys.

River Bay

This is a very popular picnic spot and many persons head to the area on weekends and public holidays. During the week River Bay is much quieter.

This is an ideal look-out spot from which you can see the impressive northern coastline where the waves pound the cliffs, creating breathtaking seasprays. Whales are occassionally spotted off this coastline.

A freshwater river runs down to the sea, hence the name of the bay.

Cherry Tree Hill

Don't look for any cherry trees, but check out the view!

Approximately 850 feet above sea-level, this spot offers an excellent view of the "Scotland District" which covers the parish of St.Andrew and is named after the Patron Saint of Scotland. At the top, the overlooking view of the sea coast below was absolutely breath-taking!

It is believed that the name "Cherry Tree Hill" originated from the large number of cherry trees which once existed at this location.

Today the road is lined with mahogany trees, which were introduced into Barbados after the Treaty of Paris in 1763. As you descend the hill the mahogany trees give way to swaying sugar cane.
