Travelling around the World – Iconic Monastery of Mandalay (Episode 2)

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Dear Steemian friends,

Yesterday we talked about the ancient city of Bagan. Today we will talk about an interesting building of another great city, Mandalay (Burma). The monastery of Shwenandaw Kyaung is the only thing that has survived of the golden Palace of Amarapura. Built on the 19th century, it is one of the most important and wonderful buildings of Mandalay's city.

It was constructed entirely with teak wood in the surroundings of the Palace of Amarapura.

On the walls of the monastery you can see how the silhouettes of dragons, flowers, dancers and mystical animals were carved.

When we walked into the building we met some monks praying and others meditating.
