๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸCityscapes - Cape Town, Why You So Pretty? ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

in travel โ€ขย  7 years agoย

Guys, I live in a stunning place. Cape Town is filled with gorgeous architecture, beautiful natural landscapes, forests, beaches, AMAZING restaurants and one big-ass mountain.

There is such a vibe here, especially in Summer. Tourists mill about, snapping photos of the skittish squirrels that scavenge around the city, eager to steal their lunches.

It is a totally unique place, like no other I have ever visited. Bustling, like most large cities, but with a hunger and attitude reminiscent of a hustler. Brazen, in your face, but yet, subtle and sublime. Serene and soft.

Summer brings a new year, a certain hopeful anticipation. The city feels electric, like anything is possible. We need all the positivity we can get at the moment with this drought - we are praying for rain every day. ๐ŸŒง๐ŸŒง

One of my favourite characteristics of the city is the diverse architecture. The entire city bowl is filled with beautiful Victorian buildings, high ceilinged and wooden floored. The CBD has some incredible examples of Art Deco apartment buildings, and there are also some majestic churches.

Then, downtown, where all the banks and financial institutions are, skyscrapers tower over the streets, their glazed windows blinking in the brilliant sunlight. It's quite the view.

Today, I thought I'd share with you my absolute most favourite building in the CBD. It's an Art Deco block of flats, just next door to the Company Gardens. The Company Gardens is a renowned park in the middle of Cape Town, with tons of history attached to it. I will tell you about them in another post, on another day!

I love the pink, it reminds me of Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel. By the way, speaking of Wes Anderson - I found an interesting article about the colour palettes he uses here.

Here's a shot I took from the Bo-Kaap of the building sticking out amongst the trees and other buildings. Peachy!

Hope you loved this small peek into my Cape Town life. It's a busy place and it gets all too much sometimes. I often remind myself to take a step outside and breathe in the fresh air, take a squizz at the mountain and just chill.

I went to Cape Town for 6 days in 2011 and my heart is still their. I've never had such an awesome new years jol..

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Hahahah a JOLLLL! That is one of my most used words. What did you for your New Years party?

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Hahaha. I literally arrived at the airport at 9:30pm with my 2 friends. Then some friends that live in CPT fetched us to go parading in the streets in town. When went to all these different clubs that were pretty eccentric. Got drunk of course and partied with the locals that were parading. the atmosphere was next level. What a jol I'll never forget. Did you have a good news this year @princessmewmew?

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

hahaha! sounds epic. It sounds like you were in Long street, which can get pretty messy.

I actually stayed at home this year. Cooked a steak and watched a movie with hubs and ze catzen. Very romantic

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Ooooolalaaaaa

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

There is no doubt that it is a beautiful place, it looks cool really is it?

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Beautiful and the streets are very clean, the opposite of where I live is dirty

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Oh it is pretty clean. Itโ€™s a great city

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

it will be my dream to visit there one day..will you host me?

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Heheh! You should definitely visit Cape Town !

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

I love your looks at Cape Town. I love architecture in general and really do enjoy seeing other types and styles. The apartment building is way cool.

My town is an ancient site, with very little to show for it. A river ford, people have been using it for thousands of years. But buildings don't last here, the temperature and extreme low humidity combined with the sand and lack of permanent building materials lets the desert reclaim anything that isn't actively defended.

Thanks for a great look. I really do appreciate it.

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Are you in California? The desert surrounding Las Vegas and California has always looked so appealing to me.

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย (edited)

Not quite. Yuma, Arizona. From my house it's about 20 miles to California and about 10 to Mexico. Though to drive into Mexico is about 30 miles. I find it incredibly appealing, it has kept me here for near 20 years.

There are some incredibly old structures near by. Indigenous Pueblos being much the oldest. There is a building on a mission site south of Tucson that claims to be the oldest building in North America. People in Florida will argue that fact. :) But Coronado was in this part of the world in the early 1500s.

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

sorry for the delayed response! I've always wanted to visit. Especially Mexico :)

Maybe one day. Maybe next year!

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Yes that is correct. In 2010 there were some major games here, and since then, Cape Town especially has had many many more tourists

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Cape Town looks awesome !!!
Some parts remind me of New York, some parts of Athens - so strange!!!
Aaaand followed [yes, I wasn't following you all this time - I cannot believe why or how so I like to blame the e-steem app for that! Can't be explained otherwise!!]

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Itโ€™s such a stunning place. The vibe is almost unexplainable. ๐Ÿ’“

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Seriously bad esteem :P No sense whatsoever ahahaha!!!
And YES, I do feel the vibe !!! :D

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Some incredible photos here, I do love the Art Deco apartment block as well like you - quite a stunning building. The skyscrapers are quite brooding and intimidating - it's really quite fitting for what they house. Super journey thanks for sharing.

thanks so much ;)

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

I've never been to South Africa. I've only ever been to the north of africa. :) I agree the apartment block looks like something out of Wes A movies. All it needs is a bell hop dressed in purple.

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

hahaha!

Did you know that people review "The Grand Budapest Hotel" on TripAdvisor!! Apparently they take the reviews very seriously :)

Where in N Africa did you go? I've always wanted to go to Morrocco and Israel.

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Morrocco and Tunisia. I much prefered Morrocco. Beautiful country.

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Ooh the foood! It looks amazing. And of course, Israel for religious and spiritual reasons

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Hi princessmewmew!
its looks amazing and I think art and design lovers must visit the cape town... :)

Architecture is the alphabet of giants, the greatest system of visible symbols ever created. I liked your post, keep it up. I wish you to break a big jackpot.
