RIO Carnival - The Greatest Show on Earth

Called The Greatest Show on Earth, in the next coming weeks from 09th -13th of February is carnival in Brazil.
An event of music, dance, songwriting, movable sculptures and a variety of colours that brings joy and beauty to the sambadrome - a purpose-built parade called: Sambódromo da Marquês de Sapucaí, it is a venue designed by one of the greatest modern architecture designers - architect Oscar Niemeyer - for samba schools to compete every year during the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro - Brazil.

The sambadrome before the Greatest Show on Earth begins - designed by Oscar Niemeyer, it is an exclusive designed venue for the Schools competition.

Rio Carnival is an event emulated all over the world in a small scale from Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, and many other parts of the world.

The sold out sambadrome venue in the evening of competition.

The Rio Carnival truly is a live artistic event.
A mix of Afro and European Culture where 13 Schools of the major group compete against each other for the title.

The competition operates on a a system of promotion and relegation.
The last 2 Schools in the score table are relegate to the previous competition where another 13 Schools compete against each other where the top 2 winners are promoted to the major group of the final 13 finalists.
A kind of serie A & B which classify and eliminates Schools by their quality of work and display.

The Schools are judge by a group of experience professionals, a total of 40 judges and each School needs to score points in different modalities in the evening.

Each School to score points display their work and theme - a must of 10 modalities in total - such as Schools Drums, School Lyrics, School Song, School Harmony, School Evolution, School Choreography, School Front Display, School Costumes Design, Schools Movable Sculptures and the School Dancers - the Mestre Sala & Porta Bandeira which is a couple - male & female dancers, the female dancer carry the School Flag.

The School dancers - Mestre Sala & Porta Bandeira, their performance is very important for their School score performance.

People all over the world travel to Brazil - to the city of Rio de Janeiro

to experience The Greatest Show on Earth.

Carnival at this particular time happens all over Brazil, but wherever you are in Brazil you are aware about the event in Rio de Janeiro and many have their own School of choice from
Rio de Janeiro major Schools Carnival competition.

Portela School Front Display, another important modality that helps Schools in their total and final score points.

The Major group of 13 Schools dispute titles against each other ( the competition event begin in 1932) and since then major schools also have their own historic score of titles, and this brings an excitement to the event as well mobilizing the support of thousands of people all over Brazil and many around the world who experienced Rio Carnival and already have their School of choice.

My School of choice is Mocidade Independente which means The Young and Independent and the final major Schools are the most popular and are mostly associated with their numbers of titles throughout the years of competitions.

Each year each School design and develop throughout the whole year a theme designed by each School Design Director - the Carnvalesco, the Carnival Director who sets the theme and organizes the design required for the parade right from the costume designs, decorations, theme song, and all the others 10 requisites and the most aesthetic beautiful and creative wins.
