A day after our hike in the area of Sapa, described here in my Vietnam articles #1 and #2, we were driving along on a scooter in the mountainous area around Sapa in the North of Vietnam on the lookout for good spots. As describend in part #3, we planned to go for hiking along streams and seeing some of the waterfalls the region is rich of.Einen Tag nach unserer Wanderung, Vietnam-Beiträge #1 und #2, sind wir mit dem Motorroller durch die gebirgige Gegend um Sapa im Norden Vietnams gefahren. Wie in Teil beschrieben #3, waren auf der Suche nach geeigneten, an denen wir an Flüssen entlang laufen und Wasserfälle, von denen es in dieser Region nur so wimmelt, sehen konnten.

It was mind blowing to climb up this waterfall, being refreshed by the water and enjoying our view from up there.Es war atemberaubend diesen Wasserfall entlang hochzuklettern, vom Wasser erfrischt und besonders der Ausblick von dort oben war ein Genuss.

This photography series is quite experimental, as the camera I used (GoPro Hero4) was attached to my arm for most of the shots below.Diese Fotografie-Serie ist experimentell, da die verwendete Kamera (GoPro Hero4) für die meisten der Aufnahmen an meinem Arm befestigt war.

It turned out to be our last hiking adventure of our trip as on the very same day we had a scooter accident.Leider entpuppte es sich als unser letztes Wanderabenteuer auf unserer Vietnamreise, da wir noch an diesem Tag einen Motorrollerunfall hatten.

However, as we were not severely injured it was a blessing in disguise. While my wife’s guardian angel did the best possible job, mine couldn’t help me from a nasty wound on my leg, which heavily limited our possibilities going forward on our round trip through the country, which we nevertheless enjoyed big time. Unfortunately, it happened quite in the beginning of our Vietnam tour.Wir hatten dennoch Glück im Unglück, da wir keine ernsthaften Verletzungen zuzogen. Während der Schutzengel meiner Frau, die auf dem Roller hinter mir saß, ihr den vollen Schutz gewährte, konnte meiner mich nicht vor einer fiesen Wunde am Bein schützen. So waren wir in den darauffolgenden Wochen auf unserer Reise durch das Land stark eingeschränkt in unseren Möglichkeiten. Leider passierte das gerade zu Beginn unserer Rundreise durchs Land.

My advice to every traveller, unless you are not entirely familiar with Scooters, do not rent one in Asia unless you know the traffic there. By now I heard of so many stories of scooter accidents by tourists and ours turned out to be one of the least frightening stories.Mein Ratschlag an alle Reisenden, sobald ihr nicht komplett sicher auf einem Roller seid, leiht euch keinen in Asien wenn ihr den dortigen Verkehr nicht kennt. Mittlerweile habe ich von so vielen Motorradunfällen von Touristen gehört, wobei unser Erlebnis noch zu denen gehört, die am glimpflichsten ausfielen.

                      Nice photo’s! It’s about twenty years ago thet my wife and I visited Vietnam. We loved it there. Especially the nothern part. The scooters are also great fun, although a bit dangerous.

                          We love Asia, this year we went to Myanmar with our kids. We also rented motorbikes a lot. Crazy traffic, but we are used to drive the bikes.

                                    So brave of you guys to be climbing freestyle around the waterfalls. My boyfriend and I heard some tragic stories about a few tourists doing the waterfall slides when we were in DeLat last fall. Glad you're safe! The motorbikes were really wild too! We only rented our own in smaller, costal cities where traffic was manageable.

Surely risky, and also what we did was not a smart thing to do, with no experience and the wrong shoes .. but then again you want experience a few adventures.                                                               ja, alles gut verheilt :). Das war ja in 2016, aber tatsächlich sind die Sputen der handgroße Wunde noch zu sehen. Wir hatten wirklich Glück im Unglück und trugen zum Glück Helme, denn mein Kopf schlug richtig auf der Strasse auf. Ich bin immer noch darüber so froh, dass meiner Frau damals bis auf einen kleinen Kratzer nicht passiert ist :) und ja, die Zeit in Asien war trotzdem wahnsinnig toll. Vielen Dank für Deinen tollen Kommentar!
