My first time trying Coldstone Creamery. (Bangkok, Thailand).

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

I don't like traveling- I love arriving at my destination.

I do not enjoy the taxis, buses, airport terminals etc. I just don't have patience to stand in long queues in general. The first day in Thailand, my boyfriend and I booked a hotel near the BKK airport just to stay for the night before got into our private SUV to head to Pattaya.

After we showered and rested for few hours, we went out to get some street food. Since we were so close to the airport, and not in a great area; Our choices were limited.

After this quick snack was done we walked around, and like clockwork- I was suddenly craving for something cold, playful and sweet... Ice cream?

bbean.jpg
(Black bean Popsicle)

We had a quick stopover at this cafe where I got myself a black bean popsicle. Yeah, it doesn't sound great! It was my first time trying this flavor, previously I only had black bean as a topping on 'halo-halo', in the Philippines. This isn't my last ice cream for the day though! After this we went to the mall and my sweet tooth attacked me again, I got to have another ice cream!

Cold stone creamery? What is this madness? I have never seen this before, my boyfriend said its one of his favorites.

(Cookie Dough)

Will you believe me if I told you I had more than 15 different ice creams on this trip? (In three weeks). Imagine how much sugar and calories that it is, yet I still manage to stay slim :)

(Apple Pie A la Mode)

(Well, it's my little minnow secret I have, that a lot of you still don't know, it's not the gym, ask me what it is and I might tell you (wink!).)

I have to say this makes me want to franchise a cold stone creamery, lol.

My last meal of the day was Japanese curry. Love me some extra spice! ^_-

The Cold stone creamery looks yummy; I'm going to try this when I go to Thailand next time, The Cold stone creamery. Thanks @purepinay :)

bueno

Thank you @joannewong! Where are you from?

@purepinay, I'm from Malaysia :)

Born and rais in Malaysia? You're only a few people hrs flight away from Thailand!

Yeah, born and raised in Malaysia. Yes, about 2 hours plus flight.

awesome photo

Have you tried Tokyo-Tokyo's Chocolate Snow Ice? Your post reminds me of this kind of ice cream. I tried one like this in the Philippines. It's not as sweet as other ice creams. It was in fact a bit salty. If ever you get sick and tired of sweets, you might find it a good an alternative.

no I haven't, that sounds good! I wonder if I can get that anywhere in Cebu. Sweet and Savory, I love that!

Traveling is fun! Is thailand's weather same as in the Philippines? Or is it hotter?

It's the same for me if I go down the city. I live up on the mountain so it's a little bit cooler but when I go to the town which is 15 mins away from the condo I live, it gets humid.

where do you usually travel?

btw, thank you for visiting my page. I like when people ask me questions it makes me want to interact more coz if not I don't know what else to say other than "Thank you!" hahaha

Thanks for replying. I'm following your post and I love to read your article. Plus I am a Pinay too so I can relate with you! I'm from US but been traveling within in the 50 States although I haven't conquer all of it yet. I've been to the Philippines recently and I missed my family, foods and place dearly. There are some countries that I would love to visit one day! Such as China, Greece,Hawaii,etc... The lists could go on!

At last i stumble a blog who is from Phillippines also. I like to travel a lot but it cost a lot of money, so for now i'm just getting myself contented of reading travel blogs, food, life story and other article. You're one that i followed now. Love your travel diaries. Mabuhay! :)

travel in Thailand doesnt need to be expensive, its much cheaper than travelling in Phils. Do some research and perhaps you will soon be writing your own travelogue . Best wishes :-)

@nathen007

Travelling, in general, is costly even for middle-class Filipinos, I always complain about the travel tax at the airport for Filipinos leaving our country, how sad is that? 1700+ plus the terminal fee to go out and see the world, this alone can buy you a whole sack of rice depending on the brand and can feed a whole family in a full month.

Without my investments, it would be possible for me to travel outside the Philippines and oh not to mention if get lucky. I remember one time, an Immigration officer told me "even if I have a million peso in my pocket she won't let me out of the country!" I was terrified!

anyways, good thing I will be migrating soon, LOL Thanks to crypto!

I agree about the travel tax, its disgraceful. When I used to travel there a lot, going back 10+ years, I used to complain about the departure tax. 300pesos if I remember rightly.....and I do understand the economics of living there so apologies if my comment came across as uneducated and flippant....I just wanted the poster to aim for it and not think its out of reach thats all :-)

Really costly @purepinay became rich I think @tessalonica

Looks really tempting, Thailand has been one of the country that I visited most frequently. I am going there next week for weekend holiday just to eat! Can't wait to feast on my boat noodles and pad thai. Looks like you're a foodie too, check me out @explorernations perhaps?

I have just uploaded an article about my traditional spring roll recipe https://steemit.com/food/@explorernations/cooking-1-traditional-chinese-spring-roll-with-bean-curd-skin

Check it out :D

I don’t like the travelling side either (most of the time). But once you get to the destination it is so worth it. The food looks great!

Hi, @keks!

Thank you for dropping by!

I feel more inspired with what you wrote =)

Thank you for making my day! How is your experience on steemit so far and where are you from?

Looks like you and your sweet tooth enjoyed eating your way around Thailand. When you make it Japan, you'll be right at home. Endless array of foods and sweets to sink your teeth into. And Coco Ichiban is just the tip of the curry iceberg (no disrespect intended).

And by the way, about your secret technique to stay slim despite eating tons of ice cream without needing the gym... is the answer happiness and good mental health? I too eat and drink whatever whenever and don't put on weight. I guess we're lucky.

very nice couple...have a great day to you both...we always here to support you guys..@purepinay and @rcarter.witness

Thank you for your continues support. Happy to see you visiting my page always. I appreciate it!

Thank you for the update, @arcange!

What is the easiest way for me to check who are the active followers on my page? Hmmm, I thought I did it before but I reset everything on my pc so now I don't have all my notes.

Hope you can help, thank you!

I tried to research it on steemit but I can't find the right link, am not sure if put in the right keywords but I used to have this application and some codes I use. I forgot what it's called, so many programs under steemit, not even sure which one is safe to use.

hey @purepinay,

SteemTracked might be helpful to you.

Have you tried Tokyo-Tokyo's Chocolate Snow Ice? Your post reminds me of this kind of ice cream. I tried one like this in the Philippines

Oh no, I haven't but that sounds good already. Do you happen to know if they sell that anywhere in Cebu?

It's a fast food chain I usually see at SM malls. There must be at least one in Cebu.

Wow what a decent post yummy and scrumptious sustenance much obliged for sharing

Bangkok has the best food in the world! 😍

For me, I found my best friend Thaifood in Chiang Mai, and I Thailand. Have you been there?

yesss, loved the food there too! But Bangkok cusine is so diverse and it steals my heart over and over again :) generally Thai food rules !

My favorite Asian food, is def. Thai :)

I agree with you. I even have a plan of hiring a cook from Thailand, a really good on though lol I like the traditional style of cooking (some of the it)

What's your favorite Thai food?

Hiring a cook from Thailand must be a succes, I keep my fingers crossed for your plans!

ohh, that's a difficult question... but I would say Tom Yum Goong- the soup if I had to choose one. But I'm in love with all the curries and seafood as well :)

@anna.urbanska

Thank you for writing back!

Mine is Khao Man Gai ^_- I'll never get bored of it. I also learned how to prepare it at home, it takes so much time but it's worth it!

Hopefully, I can find a good cook if I get too busy doing other stuff, of course, I enjoy cooking but it's also cool to a cook once every few days especially now that I get my hands on online stuff.

Btw, where are you from?

Never try that iceream but looks delicious. Nice post there. @dorotea

I really like it! You should try it too and let me know what you think ^_-

I love thai food ! its one of my favorite foods specially pai thai ugh so yummerz !!!!!

NP

wow, yep you definitely ate some good food! I lived in Thailand for a while and my favourite thing was the food! Enjoy!

oh really, where in Thailand? The best food I had was in Chiang Mai.

Where do you live now?

I love cold stone. I've been to a couple in Singapore a few times.

Cool! I will be in Singapore for New Year, where in Singapore can I find this? lol I have to try different falvors next time

Being from out of town, the 2 likely place you may be checking out will be

  • Orchard Central.
This is where the shopping road is.
  • Vivo City
This is where people mostly go to go to Sentosa.

Let me know if you like to meet some people. Maybe, we can get some Singapore folks to meet :-) It'll probably the first

I'll check these place. I haven't booked a hotel yet. I'd like to be near where there will be lots of fireworks lol.

I stayed in Chinatown during my last visit. Pretty cool, coz I surrounded with many food stalls and shopping centers.

That'll be great, I would love to. You think a quick dinner is okay? I will go shopping and it takes me a lot of hrs to buy stuff I like.. hehe... I'll let you know once I booked my ticket and hotel.

Sure, i know early enough, then I can a post out to and let people know and see who is interested. I'm on steemit.chat and discord.
Chinatown is nice for food.
For something with fireworks will probably be expensive.
There is usually countdown events around the bay area. So, you may want to check place like Pan Pacific, Marina Mandarin and Mandarin Oriental.
Of course higher end places will be Marina Bay Sands, The Fullerton and Fullerton Bay Hotel.

i love coldstone creamery especially their cheesecake fantasy flavor although it's really pricey here in the ph. and omg i wanna know your secret for staying slim, mind sharing pls! hahaha 😂

what's your fave flavor?

I don't eat breakfast and I fast for at least 12 hrs to 18 hrs... that's my secret ^_-

Interesting! IF is popular with weightlifters, but you don't look like one of those :)

Yes IF, I have been doing it for almost 3 years now. I used to lift heavier until I started using Steemit it took my time working out at the gym and part of it because I travel a lot... I though I still manage to keep two abs 😂 charot!

Are you weight-lifter?

Sadly no. I'd like to, just can't make a consistent habit of it!

I know, it's tough. You need a lot motivation and have good will power.

Do you stay active though? You sound like you're also into fitness stuff.

I manage to get active for a couple of months, then fall off the wagon. Then a few months later start something else :)

@retirejapan

WelI am too familiar with that routine lol

I have to try a little bit harder now. Today, I did the shoulder press. I am not sure how many sets, I did it until failure lol...Good luck tomorrow, let see how I feel.

So you are based in Japan, am I right?

it's the cheesecake fantasy flavor, the one with strawberries, berries and cheesecake. heaven!!

i think ive already read that somewhere but i think i'd be really hungry hahaha i'd give it a try nextime!

omg! that sound really good

I wish I can find it here in Cebu, I tried going to a lot of groceries and ice cream shop but still can't find one... I only had that plain strawberry and plain vanilla.

Btw, are you going to attend the year-end party in Manila? That sounds fun!

oh nooo I love ice cream, if you give me just 2 ice creams among the 15 you had in your trip lol, me it's the opposite if I eat too much sugar I quickly gain weight :)

I was been at Thaland and i miss many food specially padthai mama tom yum :) Also some fruit rambutan, longgan. But never miss durian ohh God what a smell :))

Black bean Popsicle? never heard of such a thing! lol , the japanese curry looks really good!

It's really good, I had it again in Pattaya. I think you'll like it too.

Yes, it and it's satisfying. You ever had Japanese curry before?

Thailand just went to the top of my travel wishlist :) Man, I'm hungry now!

I would recommend to visit Chiang Mai if you happen to travel to Thailand. Food is awesome there!

Where do you usually travel?

I love tropical places, but only been to Kauai and Cancun.

Which part of the continent is that?

Have you been in the Philippines?

Enjoyed reading post...thanks for sharing..upvoted and following.

Thank you, I appreciate your support. How are you @mggiodev?

look very delicious. good job..

I tasted coldstone too. It is delicious but nothing super extra from other icecreams to me and it is expensive in my country compared to other icecreams even italian icecream shops. Yes everyone can taste it but nothing too much extra.

ummmmmmmmmmm
Yeamiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

well, thank youuuuuuuuuu

OMGosh! I love Thailand, I love ice cream, I love street food and what could be better than Thai street food?!? However, when it comes to Coldstone Creamery, though I enjoy it, I'm actually happiest with my favorite ice cream ever, Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream!

Wanna try it!!

gorabels!

Keep traveling my friend

thank you!

WOW! Great pix @purepinay, I miss having ice cream, am already hungry.

haha! sorry about that! have you tried CSC before?

yummy, ice creams

Thanks for sharing your story of food in one of my favorite countries!

Good to see you enjoying it!

thank you! =)

Good photos, I am a photographer, it passes for my blog and sees my content, I hope that it should be of your taste, you have my vote :D greetings

The streetfood around Lat Krabang near the airport is awesome and cheap as its where most of the airport employees live !
Next time you come over here try Chocolate Ville on the outskirts of Bangkok...no further explanation needed !
As for your opening gambit about enjoying the destination more thsn the journey....Im exactly the opposite, I much prefer the journey when I travel, destination is irrelevant for me, its the journey that matters !
Great post, youre followed, in a steemit way

PS please bring me some halo halo next time you come to Thailand , thanks :-)

@nathen007

I have to remember this Chocolate Ville next time I visit BKK!

You are cool! I really just hate waiting in general, that's why I have bought 3 fidget spinner so far. You are lucky you are more patient. I guess if I see cheetas and lions running around on the side of the road while traveling, It'll be more fun lol

Wish I could bring one for you, sadly I cannot even bring liquids to the security check in lol, I'll just make you one if happen to visit the Philippines... If I still live here ^_-

Thank you for your support! i'll see you around!

Lol, I just enjoy the experiences on road, and meeting such interesting people during the journey, youre right about airport queues though, but i travel with carry on only to help that. Perhaps I need to write about one of my fav journeys which was a trip down the 'bumpy' road from Butuan to Bislig City in 2008 to attend a party an online friend had invited me to, Thats was one hell of a ride .
Best wishes to you, keep writing :-)

I love rice, pork and curry, i was salivating :)

lol you know it's easy to make one at home, I tried it a few times, you can look up a lot of good recipes online ^_-

Your story makes me want to travel just for the frozen treats :)

hahaha that's funny!

What's funnier, is that I want to visit Thailand every weekend since they have now a direct flight form Cebu, Philippines to Bangkok! LOL

How amazing is that!

Wait, where are you from?

You are so cute, sitting on the floor haha. I sit on the floor so much and people think it's weird, but I think it's fun.

This post made me laugh, actually, because Coldstone has been my favorite ice cream place in the United States for 10 years...and apple pie was always what I ordered (ok, sometimes also cherry cheesecake)!

Coldstone first started in the US...so the fact that you first tried it in Thailand is funny to me. I wonder if it tastes just as good in Bangkok.

I'm traveling in Chiang Mai right now...you should come visit this part as well! It's AMAZING!

I totally believe you about 15 ice creams... I think I've done the same thing in Thailand. I usually try to eat very healthily...but traveling just makes me want to try all the new and exciting food, even if it's bad.

Looks Yummy, I love Thailand, and actually some really nice ice cream joints in Pattaya...I have UPVOTED and FOLLOWED you... say if you like arriving...check out my post about Alaska..https://steemit.com/travel/@godfatherofsalsa/awesome-alaska-sunsets-oceania-regatta-cruise#comments

I love coconut ice crea in Thailand, have you tried it?

I do not enjoy the taxis, buses, airport terminals etc. I just don't have patience to stand in long queues in general.

That's pretty cool to know thanks for the tips by the way, have a nice..thank you so mach...

Mouth-watering ice creams. Yummy Yummy

Ahhh, Coldstone creamery is just AMAZING!! I first tried it in Abu Dhabi, right by the beach - my first memory. It was literally what it said on the tin, cold and creamy!!! I was in heaven. Then a good few years later, I also visited Bangkok, Thailand and there it was right infront of me - I was like a little kid all over again. My boyfriend didn't have a clue about it, had never heard of it, so obviously he had to have a taste too!! Until this day, I have never tasted ice-cream quite like it!
