Philippines is known for its abundance in natural resources. It is compose of more than 7,000 islands as well as hundreds of thousands of miles of coastlines which give home to the different beautiful beaches in the country. Philippines also gives home to many beautiful and breath taking local destination which apparently not widely known for everyone. And as a proud Filipino, it would be an honor to be able to share with all of you some of these attractions. So for my first blog, I would like to introduce all of you to my Alma Matter, Visayas State University.
Visayas State University is not only considered as one of the leading universities in Southeast Asia for research in agriculture, it is also considered as a ‘must visit’ tourist destination in the city of Baybay, Leyte accredited by the Department of Tourism. It is a sprawling university campus that starts from the beach upwards to the mountain peaks where anyone can combine work and learning with vacation on the side.
VSU is divided into two – the upper and lower campus. The upper campus has the main lecture halls and academic facilities. The huge open field, gymnasium, eco-park, gazebo, library, administration building, the new Olympic size swimming pool, and many more are also located here.
If you were looking for very affordable and delicious foods while roaming around the upper campus, the VSU offers you its very own cafeteria. It is surrounded by some of the student’s dormitory. You can also buy the very famous Choco Milk in the campus and other refreshing carabao milk products in Philippine Carabao Center.
While you were in the upper campus, you should also see VSU’s famous landmarks: the amazing view of the Mount Pangasugan, the twin obelisk at the main entrance of the campus, the Leyte Map portrayed in the flower fields, and most of all, the Search for Truth – a Malakas and Maganda statue located at the front of the administration building.
The lower campus is primarily composed of the sports court, the Balay Alumni Building, the VSU hospital, most of the student dormitories and the elementary and secondary education school grounds.
After the tiring trip around the campus, the beach front in the lower campus is the best place for you to relax. You can watch a very stunning view of sunset here while enjoying the relaxing sea breeze of the Camotes Sea. If you’re looking for some food to eat, the API Center alongside the beach offers you a lot of options of very delicious foods and delicacies.
For the end of the day accommodation, VSU has its own guest villas and hostel for you to stay in for the night. Where you can cook your own food if you're on the budget. And if you're having a problem of where to find something to cook, you have nothing to worry about because VSU has its own wet and dry market.
And if you’re having a thought of going on a night swimming, VSU gives you two options - to enjoy the Camotes Sea in front of your villa or enjoy its very own beach resort inside the campus.
