The Beginning
Everyone has heard about the beauty of Mussoorie, even I had heard about this beautiful hill station and wanted to visit it as soon as I get a chance. However, once you are here and realize that caught in a loop walking between the two end points on the Mall road; you sincerely doubt the purpose of your visit. Don’t know about you but this is what happened to me. This is what got me to The George Everest House.
The Plan
Looking at the never-ending Himalayan range and snow covered peaks, I wanted to get out of the city into the calmness of the isolated mountains. So, this is when I decided to call a friend and asked him about other offbeat places that I could visit before the day got over. Fortunately, a group of friends was planning a trip to the “Everest Point,” at least this is what they called it. They offered me a seat on one of their bikes, and this is how our journey started.
The road to George Everest
Within 45 minutes of starting off our trip, we on the road to Hathipaon. Yes, it is the same road that leads to Clouds End, but it appeared somewhat different from my last visit to Clouds End. Soon I realized that we were the only one riding on the road, but even then everybody was enjoying the journey.
Spectacular view of Mussoorie as seen from the road. Yes, they brought the kites along with them.
Simultaneously sharing jokes and maintaining the gap.
The perks of traveling on a lonely road – get your pic captured with anything and everything that you see parked on the road
The ride is the destination in itself. There is always room for a perfect roadside pic
As we moved far away from the city, the roads got smaller, and the views got better. All our riders were skilled enough to bear the offroad conditions and glide along the road causing us no harm.
The Unexpected
Once we reached George Everest I was mesmerized by the views. I realized there were a lot of people here and this place looked like a major tourist attraction.
The George Everest House is a laboratory and home to Sir George Everest. Built in 1832 the house belongs to the renown Surveyor General of India from 1830-1843. When Tenzin and Hilary ascended the Mount Everest, they named this peak as “Mount Everest” to give tribute to Sir George Everest.
As it was a fun trip with friends, it was not supposed to be informative, and even I was surprised to learn that the person who discovered the highest peak of the world was doing it all here in Mussoorie. Well, that was the only “Fun Fact” for the day.
The George Everest peak
Probably one of the highest peaks around and once you reach the top, you can witness the Doon valley and the beautiful Himalayas both in the opposite directions. Of course, it is a long trek and looking at the pic you would have guessed it by now, but once you reach the top, the view is spectacular.Sadly, we could not go there as we had other important things to do.
The green path to the peak surrounded by the Tibetan prayer flags that add even more colours to the beautiful nature
Unlike me, the people who made this trip possible were not here for the first time. As it happens with every other place, they were bored visiting the same location again and again with nothing new to do. So, they managed to bring some Kites and a Cricket bat with them. In the beginning, it didn’t look like it was a good idea but once the kites were up in the air, everyone wanted to fly them. As I was flying the kite others were just getting started with the game of cricket.
Not everybody gets a chance to fly kites and play cricket on their visit to George Everest.
Feeling the place
Happiness is: Risking Everything for a pic.
GOJump!!! Not everyone can gather the courage to jump from such heights.
How can we not dance here!! As there was no music system, we decided to dance to the song “Gangnam Style” instead. KILLER MOVES, THOUGH!!
Perfect Profile Pics
It is common human nature and a social requirement to have your profile picture clicked whenever you get out of your daily routine. With an eye-catching view of George’s surrounding, we couldn’t resist the temptation and took the liberty and the positions to get the picture clicked while the others were busy playing. No doubt, a visit to this place can surely excite your social media rankings.
This was the time to get a perfect profile picture
The Snacks Break
After all that hard work everybody wanted food to eat. This man was in charge of the food supply chain and was given the responsibility to make sure no one died of hunger that day.
See all those burgers in his hands! With all that food, comes greater power.
There were Maggie points here to feed always hungry souls like us. You should try laying your hands on the Maggie here.
EYE CANDY
My visit to George was with the people who were super fun and made sure that every moment here was off beat. However, if I would have visited this place alone, I would love to spend even more time staring the distant mountain peaks and clouds that touch the sky and save all the nature snapshots in my memory till my next visit. Yes, this is mesmerizing. Take a look.

The Retreat
After a never ending day and hitting some huge sixes from the top of the peak, there was still a lot left to do. But as the sun lost its warmth and the cold breeze started to cover the place, we knew it was time to get back on the road. Before the sunset everyone was back on their bikes with almost no energy loss, discussing how this trip to The George Everest was one of their best. For me, this was an escape not to a perfect tourist place but to one of the most beautiful places I’ll keep with me for a long time.
After this beautiful journey, now I seriously doubt that Mr. George Everest was there to study the Himalayas.
